posted earlier from my g1 on T-Mobile (starting with: Good 3G+(hspa) coverage downtown.) just switched to verizon, and i'm disappointed, I thought going to 4g and Verizon would improve signal, but I have no signal in more places now. mostly use phone when reading news on the bus from downtown to campus, and Verizon seems slightly worse than t-mo. 4g has 1 bar in most places downtown and on campus. maybe 3g is better, but this phone is struggling to stay on 4g. thinking about switching to AT&T next. understand that santa cruz is difficult due to many hills and big trees.

No reception. AT&T map clearly states solid reception at my address. No questionable coverage in surrounding areas indicated on map as well. I purchased a product and service based on this information and as many times as I've complained the map is still incorrect. Company is deliberately publishing and maintaining false information. Map is simply a marketing tool and should not be used for FACTS in your decision making process.

Good 3G+(hspa) coverage downtown. Campus has a few dead zones; on the bus line between porter and base of campus (oakes), in many buildings drops to Edge or no coverage, spotty in the forest. Haven't tried 4g and probably won't as I'm going to try Verizon soon. Two vzw stores in town, tmo store is in san jose.

Dropped calls inside. Only work near window. Ok outside. This is a dead zone for many carriers I guess. :(

This is ridiculous. I am in Downtown Santa Cruz and I have to leave my building to get even 2 bars of signal. T-Mobile has given me problems in Santa Cruz for as long as I've been here.

I've lived all over Santa Cruz - currently on the East side, but I lived on campus, as well as on the West Side. Verizon has a couple dead spots on campus, but from my experience worked better or as well as all other carriers. Excellent reception in W Santa Cruz, Downtown, even by the beach (especially Natural Bridges which can be dodgey for other carriers). Doesn't work in Bonny Doon however. So if you don't head up into the forest that way, its otherwise excellent. Also service has gotten much better over the 17 - no longer drops calls (not that you should be on the phone while driving :P)

My reception and dropped-call frequency seems poor-to-middling, especially at my house (see location). I understand that my V551 phone is very problematic, with the volume dropping to inaudible often and occasionally sounding normal. I've never dropped my phone. Bad firmware I've read--but it's intolerable and the source of much frustration. I believe otherwise that Cingular provides good coverage around town but again, not where I live. I'm debating a switch to Verizon, which I remember gets high marks locally...

I've had Cingular forever. It works swell all over Santa Cruz except at my house on University Terrace near Bay and Nobel and Meder. I have never been able to make a call longer than 5 minutes without being dropped, and the bars fluxuate between 0 and 3. Many, many calls to Cingular to no avail. They tell me their map shows that I have excellent reception.
