Up until about June 15th 2008, Larkfield didn't have very good service. The only phones that seemed get get a decent signal without significant drops was Nextel. But that seems to have changed, now I get full to near full bars in larkfield with my iphone. My parents Nokia phones, also on AT&T network, get great reception now as well.

I love my AT&T service. I get wonderful reception in my house and around town. Even going to the coast I still have service.

GSM / Iphone unit. Very poor reception outside of house. Signal intensity fluctuates with local atmosphere conditions (fog is good, clear skies bad), indicating signal is indirect from source. Zero reception inside house. Conversely, TREO 750 with Sprint works with strong signal for voice and high speed data. Why did I switch? IPhone is a next generation device, when you can get an ATT signal!

Indoor reception is almost non-existant. Outdoor is slightly better. I've tried different model phones with no improvement. I continually have dropped calls around town as well as poor reception in other areas of town (especially the Piner area). I got the Treo so I would have internet capability (for work), but access was SO slow it was not practical. I have been hugely disappointed with my entire Cingular experience.

Coverage in that area for the most part is still poor. It's better outside my apartment. It's like the Verizon "Can you hear me now?" I find it strange that I can stand there with FOUR bars, make a call, and during the call the signal drops and hovers between 1 and 2 bars. WTF does the signal DROP when making a call. I hate Cingular. Always have. I liked the service and customer service when it was the good old days of Pacific Bell Mobile Services. The only reason I haven't switched all these years is too many people know my cell number by heart. But now I've brought me phone number, service and money to Verizon because of better coverage, better plans and it's NOT Cingular!

just switched to Cingular GSM from Cingular TDMA. had major promises of no more dropped calls and better reception and coverage. the coverage since switching is FAR worse than before, and I have a dropped call at least twice a day. my phone has absolutely quit working altogether 3 times. I am on my 4th phone in 5 months. Cingular will not give me a new phone at the stores, I have to call a special number, get warranty service people, they send me a new phone and I send in the failed phone. our new slogan for Cingular in this household, which has been with Cingular (nee AT&T, nee cellular one) for almost 20 years, no kidding, is "cingular sucks". I would warn ANYONE away from cingular, and I have been a loyal customer since 1987. Verizon is MUCH better.

Since the merger with ATT reception has gotten better and better. You have to update your SIM card(free at the Cingular store) and it helps if you have a great phone(Siemens Rules). Even works great at the coast!

I allowed my very good AT&T TDMA service to be sucked into the Cingular GSM realm at the beginning of the year. Now when in our house I will usually get 1+ bar, but if I step into the backyard it will jump to 4+ bars. Generally, the front yard yields no signal at all. There are other times, however, when I will get 4+ bars in the house. I don't know if this means that there is a problem with hand-off between towers, or just being on the very edge of a cell.
