I have very spotty coverage in most of Fort Ord, and coverage used to be fairly decent at my house (I could at least make calls from a few particular places in the house and not have them drop) but since about a week ago (around the beginning of 2011) I have had absolutely NO service at all. Not a thing. I am lucky to get a text out, but most of the time I cant. It eats up my battery really fast too because it is searching for a signal all day. I have no problems with Verizon in any other Seaside areas. The Del Monte Center in Monterey is a bit spotty though.

While my husbands I phone on the AT&T network is searching for signal most of the time, my Sprint network phone works fantastic on Fort Ord!

Unlike most of the military housing, I'm located on the top of the hill, and with T-Mobile, my service has always been great. The majority of places I've been to at Ft. Ord, NPS, DLI, and in-town in Seaside and Monterey, I've actually gotten really good coverage with them. There are some dead spots on Hwy. 1 heading north from the Seaside end of Fremont St., but otherwise I've been very satisfied. No kidding, I get 5 bars almost anywhere INSIDE my home, and 4 bars at most of the DLI. With the exception of a few dead zones out in the boonies, I've been able to carry on phone conversations in the car from Seaside, up Hwy. 1, across Hwy. 156, and up Hwy. 101 all the way up to San Jose - the major dead spots are just outside Marina, on 156 between Castroville and 101, and a few places before Gilroy heading northbound.

I absolutely loved my T-Mobile and my Samsung phone in Tx. then we came here... . There isn't any coverage really for T-Mobile here at our house (Ft. Ord), when you get on the highway it gets better but a bit spotty. I cancelled with them. Most of the people I know turned to Verizon which works wonderfully here for them.

I've been with Cingular / AT&T for several years and have generally been pretty happy with their service in the Monterey / Marina / Salinas area, and it has gradually improved over past few years, especially in Monterey. However, I have one major beef with their coverage just south of Marina on Hwy. 1 where there is a significant dead zone, and it has been there for years. It's right around the entrance to CSUMB and the old Fort Ord army base, extending from 12th St. south to Lightfighter Dr. Since I know it's there, I can usually plan my calls around it, but I commute through the area every day so it is a pain if I have to make an extended call. Calls usually drop completely, and even if they don't, the quality is never better than terrible. My guess is that students and faculty at CSUMB suffer most from this as the campus is very close to the dead zone.

Horrible reception at my apartment complex, while driving, at CSUMB... pretty much whenever.

My calls break up frequently and sometimes drop when I'm at home (most other places, it's fine). Sprint tells me I'm in a "known coverage hole", and they have no plans to add coverage in this area. On the plus side, they have given me excellent customer service, sending a tech to look for problems, explaining the issue, and offering to waive the early termination fee if I switch. My neighbor has MetroPCS and says it's the best choice around here.
