This is an update to the previous review with v551 and v220 phones. I have upgraded my phones to Motorola KRZR and V3xx. On Hwy. 44, from 1 / 4 mi. west of Inwood Rd.to Redding, I have very good reception on KRZR (4 to 5 bars) with only a few bad spots: 1 mile west of Dersch, around Bear Creek bridge, and around Millville Plains road, however calls are not dropped, just somewhat garbled for a few seconds. V3xx will drop calls in these spots. My guess KRZR is a quad band vs. V3xx tri band, so KRZR can pull weak signal from T-Mobile tower. I have also used Sony Erickson z710i phone for a few weeks, reception was better then V3xx, but not as good as KRZR (and battery only lasted 2 days, KRZR is 4 days with my typical usage)

On occasion you can find a spot along 44 where reception is good enough to make a call, 99% of the time- no reception whatsoever all the way past Old Station.

I have used Cingular for 2 yrs, spotty reception from Black Butte Rd. to Redding along Hwy. 44. I normally get 1 to 4 bars. My new house is on the knoll 1 / 4 mi south of 44, just past del encino estates - perfect reception. In the old house just 150 yrds to the north reception is 1 bar. Verizon - reception at all anywhere.
