The only time my phone have bars is when I am not touching it. The minute I pick it up and try to use it to see my emails or make a telephone call, I get "No Service" or "Searching". If I am very, very lucky, the phone might let me make a static filled call that cuts out after the person on the other end of the line picks up. It would be faster to snail mail a letter and wait for a reply than download an email and send a reply on my iPhone with AT&T service.

AT&T is a running joke with residents of Sierra Madre. Orange juice cans and string would be a significant upgrade. We're thinking of switching to Verizon but will be sure to research it thoroughly first.

AT&T reception is wretched in the Sierra Madre area. I don't even try to make phone calls, and text messages usually require a few attempts.

Have had Verizon for many years. By far the only service to use if you live in Sierra Madre. Reception stinks to closer you get to Michilinda, as well as below Orange Grove on Baldwin. The call is immediately dropped in that two block range, but then it's fine again. Sometimes in our house calls are dropped for no reason, but for some reason voicemails always come through. Many times the cell won't ring, but the voicemail will. I always tell friends, "LEAVE A VOICE MAIL!" Some days are better than others, but I can never quite figure out why. I have to say that I usually don't have much difficulty in the house. I'd love to take advantage of one of the cheaper cell services, but in Sierra Madre unfortunately the only choice is Verizon. It's not perfect, but it's the best there is for this town.

It's rare for me to have a full conversation anywhere in my house or land without the call dropping or the voice becoming distorted. Frequently I can't even send a text message. Gets slightly better farther south you go, but still terrible.

I don't understand why the reception is so terrible in Sierra Madre... the reception is much better up in the mountains along the hiking trails, so why not in the town area? It's pathetic! Verizon's website says that there is reception in Sierra Madre, but it's a LIE! Why can't we just put a cell tower in the town or something? It's ridiculous. I almost want to move because of this.

Lima, north of Grandview. 1-2 bars at best, but if you move the phone 6 inches it drops out. It is impossible to have a conversation, or even to text message. When you lose contact, the phone still shows 3 bars but you really don't have it. Essentially, AT&T is useless over most of Sierra Madre

I can get voicemail if I put the phone on my window sill and don't move it. I can't conduct a conversation otherwise. I get just enough service to say, "Hey, I'm at home, call me on my land line," and the person on the other end gets it garbled but understands.
