I have lived in several canyons, including Laurel Canyon and now Topanga Canyon, and there is no other viable option than Sprint. If it doesn't work, you can be sure others don't as well. The only spot that dies is Old Topanga Canyon Rd, but no one works there as there are no towers. If you live and drive through the canons, Sprint is the way to go. As for regualr driving through LA, I almost never get a drop call. I wish they had Motorola phones, but coverage is what counts for me.

Sprint has reception along the whole length of Topanga Canyon Blvd. from Mulholland to the coast. Neighborhoods in Topanga Canyon have reception or fade depending on if there is geology in way; a major antenna is on Old Topanga Cyn across the street from the Inn of the 7th Ray. There is no reception on Old Topanga Canyon except the first say 1 / 4 mile. (As far as I know, no cell companies work in old canyon, though I heard talk of one putting up an antenna soon). When hiking, when you get up high it is possible to get a signal even if there isn't one lower down.

3 / 28 / 2011 Was told -- yet again -- the "degraded" tower would be fixed. This has been going on since the beginning of March. Five bars, yet the calls still don't go through. The people at AT&T are like robots just saying the same rehearsed warm and fuzzy sales pitch word for word.. "I understand your frustration... yada yada yada" but NOTHING is done to actually fix the tower. It's almost as if they are hoping that it will not cause enough of a problem so that they don't really have to fix the tower -- like when Ford ignored their cars blowing up when they were rear-ended because it was cheaper then a recall. I Don't want to give up my iphone -- does anyone know if Verizon works at all up in the canyon just north of Froggy's?

Virtually useless reception in Top O' Topanga. It's fine just at the gate, then drops within another 100 ft. I had Sprint investigate - they confirm the problem and claimed it was the topography. Note that T-Mobile works perfectly here.

5 days now with no reception. After a week of no reception in the beginning of the month, this is getting extremely frustrating. Constant promises to repair the towers yet the problem is back again. At&t needs to get this fixed ASAP. The odd thing is that if I drive up the canyon there are spots where I get 5 bars of signal yet the phone wont make or receive calls or access the internet.

AT&T says there are 10 degraded towers in this area. They Claim the degraded towers will be repaired by sunday 3 / 27. I believe that AT&T, does not own the these towers, but pays for shared usage from them, perhaps they have let that contract lapse? When the iphone first came out I tried to purchase online from apple with a 90290 zip, but was refused, due to the towers in area code 90290 were not AT&T towers. I then purchased the phones via apple online using my 90265 zip, and the purchase went through; however in the user agreement it stated that if the majority of usage was on non-AT&T towers, my service could be terminated. Anyone that uses AT&T in 90290 should call in and report their service issues, squeaky wheels get the grease. Bottom line: AT&T credited me $30 + 3000 additional rollover minutes after 1hour on the phone with them.

They are saying it will be fixed by tomorrow. The gave me another nice credit for the inconvenience so I will wait it out but if it's not back tomorrow, I'm gone for good.

Cell has been down at this intersection since 2-28. Now no service anywhere along the Blvd.from 101 to PCH for the past few days. Everyday endless promises to be repaired but nothing! Affecting every business in Topanga! got to drive out of the canyon to get texts. Unbelievable!

(Topanga) I've noticed that on a couple of occasions today I'm getting a couple bars but then it quickly goes back to No Service. My guess is that they are in fact working on the problematic tower... but clearly not fast enough for those of us impacted. The Microcell is becoming more appealing by the minute although I'm not terribly inclined to give AT&T any more of my money than I have to.

I also experienced "no service" along Topanga Canyon since Monday. My son, who attends Topanga Elementary, was unable to get ahold of me Tuesday after school. Many kids / teachers that have AT&T were also blocked out of service. Called AT&T today. Was told service would be back on later today...
