When Sprint first launched the 4g in my area it was great and I had full bars, Now it drops back to 3g. And the 3g in the area is really bad too. My 4g reads "poor" and is useless for data now. I have also notice in my travels that 4g is not available in most areas still and if it is, it's real slow and will hang.Let it be noted that I have a Sprint cell site a few blocks away. I wonder if Sprint is throttling back the data, It seems that way to me.

I don't know if it has to do with the iPhone, but ever since the iPhone came to Verizon, the cell reception in this area has gotten progressively worse! I work about 1 mile away from the Van Nuys airport, and have been getting consistently dropped calls almost every phone call I make. Imagine having to make important calls to doctor's offices, utilities, financial institutions, etc only to have to call drop in the middle of the conversation. I have called Verizon at least 15 times the last 4 months complaining about this, and all they tell me to do is call Tech Support or update my phone (which I've done). I know for sure it is Verizon's cell service because my co-workers who used to have Verizon and had various phones ALL had the same issue. Only when they switched to other carriers, including crappy AT&T, did the issue stop. I know for sure it is something with this specific area around the Van Nuys area since the reception at my home (Encino) is completely fine. Verizon does nothing but makes excuses for their shoddy service claiming that their towers are fine. If it were not for the ETF I would've jumped ship right now. Come April, I'm leaving Verizon for good.

When I lived in Burbank this phone got beautiful reception and rarely a dropped call. Sadly, that's no longer the case since I moved to Lake Balboa last summer. Now dropped calls are frequent, and I also have to endure long periods with no bars. My phone still works fine in other parts of the valley. Fortunately, I have a land line with with I do most of my phone communication when at home nowadays.

We lived in Burbank for a while and had great Verizon coverage. The moved to Van Nuys / Sherman Oaks area and Verizon was bad. They let us out of our contract early. So we got iPhones and AT&T. From dec 09 to may10 we had stellar service. Rarely a failed call. Tons of bars most of the time. Sometime in May, coincidentally when Apple announced the new iPhone, we started getting failed calls and very poor service especially indoors. We even tried that AT&T m cell tower but are returning it due to it shutting down our server off and on all day. And so we started quizzing anyone we knew who used the iPhone and every person we talked to said starting just before the summer they had mostly crappy service especially in their houses. From Pasadena to woodland Hills and in between. Anyone way to start a class action suit?

My cell phone is my only phone. I need to be able to rely on it. I got it to replace my landline many years ago. Don't remember having quite as much trouble when I lived in West L.A. (before Cingular merged with AT&T), but then I moved to Sherman Oaks and have lived here since Dec. 2007. Reception has always been fair at best, but now it's completely non-existent. Late 2009, I was having to go outside and down block to get even 1 or 2 bars; now my message says "No Network Available." What the heck is going on?? Went to AT&T store, rep was very nice, but she thought replacing SIM card would do the trick. No luck. Worth saying I do get a little reception around Van Nuys / Magnolia, but the cutoff point for me is one block west (Kester / Magnolia). Phone immediately goes to zero. I'm SO frustrated right now - locked in contract till Jan. 2011, and of course, the rep pulled up the coverage map and said, "Oh, it looks like you should be getting great coverage." Yeah, right. If it takes cutting my losses with a term. fee, I will, but they should let me out. How is it right to pay $50 a month for no coverage? Ridiculous!

I love the reception I get with Verizon (except traveling thru the canyons and cresting at Mulholland). Now if Verizon could just stop those annoying plans and hellicopters coming in and out of Van Nuys Airport, I could hear ALL of my conversations!

1-2 bars, by my kitchen window I get 3 bars. Still I can connect to the internet, make calls and receive calls. The reception in my apartment is not great, but I can get by. Outside the reception is good.

DEAD SPOTS: Roscoe and 405 fwy (Budweiser plant) - phone will go to "no service" immediately without fail. It will not only drop you, but you might not be able to get a signal for another 3 miles no matter which direction you go. Really odd how that works. White Oak / Saticoy - Dead spot. No service in the Ralphs shopping center. Dont dare drive by while on the phone, you will be dropped. Its been a problem for years now, and nothing has been done. I avoid that route if I need to make a call. 5 fwy / Roxford (Sylmar) - drops you every time. Might be the juvenile hall satellites 405 fwy south (where you enter the SFV from the 5 junc) - phone drops you as you enter the valley from where the 405 starts. Then will get service back only to lose it when you reach the Budweiser plant.

For Cingular saying they are the only network that does not drop calls, is a total lie. There has been many times when I have been trying to place a call and had no good reception or calls did not go through. I am very unhappy about this.

Most of the time incoming calls go directly to voice mail. I have to go out to the middle of the street for 1 bar to try to make a call and that still spotty with static. Most out going often get call fails.

Cingular GSM is much better than a few years ago. Indoors it is still marginal. Better upstairs than downstairs. For important calls I will walk outside or use my landline. On major streets and freeways it is pretty reliable. I grew up with only landlines and I still consider the wireless system a step below!

my phone wont work inside my bedroom, or kitchen, but I get 1 bar in my living room. For some reason it works better in the early morning (like 12am-5am), not sure why that is. the phone is half-decent when you are outside but drops calls at least 2-5 times a day. I am very unhappy with cingular, and their customer service is bad too. I will be switching soon, probably to t-mible ebcause I don't think I will be approved for sprint. I am glad I found this website.

I get 1 bar when I am outdoors almost anywhere in Van Nuys. I get 0 bars inside of my apartment. I literally had to stand on the toilet in the bathroom and lean towards a window near the ceiling just to answer my phone. That helped, but it always would die in a matter of minutes or seconds. Even just stepping outside the door of my apartment did not help. I would have to walk about 50 yards down the road until my phone would give me service. It frequently would die even being out and about driving in the area. It also would not work well in other areas, like downtown LA, under any bridge, Hollywood. Half the time it never rang, it just went straight to voicemail. I hate Cingular for this area. I even tried a $370 phone out for a week (later returning it) to see if that would make a difference over my cheap-o free phone, and NO it did not make even the tiniest bit of difference. Booooo to Cingular.

T-mobile is the absolute worst. I get poor to no reception all over the valley. it's awful. I called T-Mobile to complain and the operator said, "well, that's what happens with cell phones - they go in and out of coverage areas... " this is driving me nuts. thanks for giving me a place to rant!
