Since sept 24 when 455 ATT towers went out, no service unless driving east venice blvd. and then in and out..never been strong service in venice or MDR. Bought temp Verizon phone to forward to as only phone. ATT ADMITTED PROBLEM and credited money. Ordered 4GS as from Reading this blog I don't see that other services better. One problem - No one wants towers on their street.

Oct 7, 2011: I have AT&T but it is POOR. I usually only get one bar in my apt. on Pacific Ave (between Washington and Venice Blvd). It's very spotty - sometimes I'll get about 3 bars but it's choppy. I'm tired of AT&T so now deciding between Sprint or Verizon now that they offer the iPhone.

Extremely poor reception. Callers often cannot hear my voice. Frequently phone does not ring and I find out there was a call when I get a message. The Original iPhone was poor but passable. The iPhone 4 (with case) is terrible. Dialing out often takes a long time before ringback starts.

Pacific Ave. / Rose Ave., Venice, CA 90291 Thu Nov 04, 2010

I live on the west side of Pacific Avenue, just south of Rose Ave. (say, 33 Sunset Ave., about 60 steps to the boardwalk, or 70 steps to the sand) in Venice, CA 90291. I have lived in and visited several homes and apartments in this general area and have good experience with several carriers. Here's the order of service offered (coverage-wise I mean - they ALL suck!), worst to best, based on my experience: 4. TERRIBLE (by far): T-Mobile. If you have T-Mobile here you either have Poor or No Service. I had it when I first got here and still use it occasionally on a pay as you go phone. If you go into a building or walk on the boardwalk, you'll get cut off and many times will not be able to get a connection at all. From inside my home, I cannot get a T-Mobile connection and anyone who tries with their T-Mobile phone cannot get a signal. Lots of places like mine in Venice 90291. If you walk out to the main walking street or side street, you can usually get a signal. Between blocks you'll get cut off a lot, and at times won't get through at all. Don't get T-Mobile if you're going to live on or near in the beach in Venice, CA 90291 3. OK (but spotty): AT&T. AT&T works most of the time, with a weakish signal, and drops lots of calls if you're walking around the beach nearby 'hood. In many basement or large apartment complexes and hotels, you won't get any service at all, but to a lesser degree than T-Mobile. So much for the big orange "blanket of coverage" they run onto the beach with in their ads... 2. Good: Sprint. I don't have a lot first hand experience, but when friends come over that have Sprint, they can actually get a signal in my house. It's weak though. My AT&T and T-Mobile friends can NEVER get a signal here. 1. BEST HANDS DOWN: Verizon. There's a lot of places in Venice where the only people talking on cell phones are Verizon customers. This is because no one using anything other than Verizon can get a signal. For the those OK with living a mile or more from the beach: in general, all the major phone services get a decent signal once you get on the east side of Lincoln Ave (the PCH), or about 1 mile from the beach. -niktaeb

I hate AT+T. I spend $150 a month for nothing. Been trying for an hour to speak to a real person in customer service to cancel account but have been disconnected 3 times.

Up until last week, I was able to make phone calls from my apartment. Since about Wednesday afternoon, I have gotten so many "Call Fail"s that I am starting to understand what people say about AT&T. I am willing to give them a chance though. They say there are three towers down with i a ten mile radius of my home, perhaps due to the winds. I am hoping they get those back up, because I have had my phone since September with no problem. It is my only phone (no land line) and I'm unemployed, so this is a problem.

There is 3G at Lincoln Blvd. As soon as I head west towards my house, it drops to Edge. Inside my house, the signal becomes unusable. Voice calls constantly break up or are dropped completely.

I'm lucky to get one bar anywhere within one or two blocks of my apartment. AT&T has promised me for years they are installing new towers to improve reception. I'm not holding my breath. As soon as Verizon gets the iPhone, I'll gladly pay whatever the early termination fee is to get off this pitiful network.
