Varies between poor reception and none at all (must be right on the edge of the area). Receives text messages, but calls often fail to go through, or will be dropped.

I get full reception but calls are dropped all the time. I can hear other people, but no one can ever hear me. I have to drive a few miles away and call them back, then it works fine.

Sometimes one bar, sometimes no bars. I changed to Cingular from AT&T in January 2005 because the rollover minutes were attractive to me and because an employee at the Boulder Cingular store said a tower would be put in at 28th and Iris by March 28th. When I called Cingular about three weeks ago to ask if the tower had indeed been put in, I was told there was no plan to add a tower. The rollover minutes are meaningless to me, I can't even use my monthly minutes. When my two year contract is up, I will change services, unless the reception has improved. My husbands Verizon, my neighbor's T MO and my business partner's Sprint phones all work fine at this location.

Hwy. 36 on Top of Major Hill / Hill Between Superior and Boulder, Boulder, CO 80303 |
Sun Aug 14, 2005 |
There is this stretch on 36 (the hill between Superior and Boulder) that no matter what (it never fails) my calls always drop (while dricing it through it). My bars go to none and my calls are dropped. Dr.1 mile service comes up again (still not great).

I had AT&T, my wife Voicestream (pre-TMobile), her's always worked mine dropped constantly. I went to TMO and haven't regretted, works well at home and work near Crossroads Mall. Neighbors have Sprint and Verizon, iffy coverage on all, if you're in north BOCO TMO seems to have the best coverage. Dropped calls are inevitable with any carrier. Try holding a call driving south on 93, impossible any carrier. Rarely happens with TMO. Now if only they would straighten out their VM!

I commute between Boulder and Broomfield. I can count on losing my call at least twice during the drive: once at the top of Davidson Mesa and once going under McCaslin Blvd. I also sometimes lose calls going past Storage Tek. I never had these problems with Verizon, so I'll probably switch back.

Reception from the new Holiday Neighborhood has been pretty reliably strong with good connections and only rare dropped calls. My girlfriend (located on same block) had problems with dropped calls and bad reception up till a few months ago using a Motorola V300. (it is a smaller flip phone with perhaps smaller antenna) Now it is better too. Not sure if they added coverage to boost the signal, or if it is much better at the other side of the block where she moved to. Tmobile is decent company. Decent customer service but I'm tired of paying to replace my Nokia 3650 every 8 months or so when it gets flaky, so will try another company (cheaper to get new plan with another company.)

I live near the intersection of 7th and University in Boulder. When I receive a call, I usually must dash out into the street to continue the conversation. I have also had problems getting reception when travelling in several eastern states, in areas that are home to a high density of businesses.

Sometimes spotty, but typically good. Though I can't explain why at 2:03 and 2:05 a.m the phone drops calls every single day. Also I have the problem with calls dropping getting over the hill on 36 between Superior and Boulder, like it seems so many do.

So, my experience with AT&T TDMA seems to be the exception. Signed up Fall, 2003. Got quality advice from salesman at local AT&T store. Very honest. Said that, while GSM is much better tech, the Denver area coverage for AT&T was mediocre and would take awhile to improve. I was looking for coverage in the mountains, and he firmly recommended the older TDMA network. Boy was he right. Service has been good to very good through much of the Boulder area. I get solid reception in my house, and while signal varies around town, very rarely can I not make or receive calls. Works in Broomfield, Louisville, Longmont, etc. Heck, works great in Leadville, CO. GSM quality (based on calling from store demo phones and leaving self a voicemail) is definately better, and the future. But the darn phone needs to work more places then the airport and the freeway. My contract is up, but I will roll month to month, at least until the local GSM coverage from Cingular (AT&T) is improved. Salesman did think that GSM would improve once the merger was complete and Cingular had a chance to upgrade the local plant in this area. Finally, he strongly recommended the not-so-fancy-but-free Nokia phone. While not snazzy, he said it had the best antenna of the TDMA models avail. Normally I never trust salesman, but the guy earned his commission. I'm a satisfied customer.

Always soft signal to dropped calls regardless of model - T-Mobile much better on Valmont also. T-Mobile FULL signal in Maries & Vics - ATT GSM is crud inside these businesses in North Boulder.

With Nokia 6610 also, consistently drops call coming over hill on 36 into Boulder between the two buttes. Holds calls going out of Boulder - MUCH better than ATT Wireless! 4 spots in Boulder where ATT Wireless NADA - T-Mobile full signal ;-)
