I use my cellphone around SE Boulder County, Broomfield County, and Adams County. The phone service is frustratingly poor. More than 1 / 3 of my calls drop. The rest typically suffer from poor reception / fading.

Most of the time reception is very good. Occasionally will get a dropped call or the bars will go down for a short time.

Never above 2 bars of service, constant missed calls and garbled messages. I can always hear the other person fine, but they can never hear me. Driving me nuts.

Disappointing service, especially when you consider that this is the "high tech" district in Boulder...

Signal strength typically varies from 0 to 2 bars. For somewhat reliable conversations, I need to go to the 2nd floor to talk.

Virgin mobile prepaid minutes plan has given us great reception with no hidden costs (i.e. massive TAXES). Virgin mobile uses the Sprint network. When we moved here 5 years ago I had Verizon wireless on a satallite plan which I signed up for in NY. I had great reception with the satellite but when I switched off of satellite the reception was useless in Boulder. I went without a cell phone until I tried Virgin Mobile at a risk of $25 that covered the cost of the phone + $20 in airtime.

west Gunbarrel is spotty with AT&T. Sometimes cannot get signal in the house. Other problem spots - Valmont and Foothills - if I'm on the phone driving into Boulder from the Diagonal, when I get to just before Valmont, calls often drop. Picks up again just south of Valmont. Most of the rest of Boulder pretty OK. Been with ATT - Cingular - ATT (when will they make up their mind!) for 10 years....now thinking of switching...

At ground level, reception is fairly decent almost everywhere I go. Above ground level, such as on the second floor of a building, reception is great. Only problem I have with T-Mobile is when they have issues on their side. I have had T-Mobile service for about a year, and they have had three times where all data signals are dead, so texting, email, and mobile web browsing is dead. Reception in the mountains is non-existant. Verizon picks up in a lot of locations T-Mobile won't. However, Verizon doesn't have as good of reception on the flat ground as T-Mobile does. Not many dead spots when traveling around the front-range. You can be on the phone the entire time while going from Ft. Collins to Denver and not lose the call. There are places where reception isn't great, and you may have to ask the other person to repeat themselves a couple times, but you won't lose the call. I have had quite a few dropped calls, but only 2 or 3 of them were from my side. All the others were because the other person dropped the call. T-Mobile, however, has very poor customer support. If you're looking at getting a new service provider, consider T-Mobile. Just be careful of the few times where you may need to call customer support, because it'll be a nightmare beyond belief.

On this stretch of hwy 36, I can be sure to have at least 3 dropped calls, and a conversation full of dead spots. Had the same problem with AT&T wireless years ago. Don't know if any provider gives good reception here.

I have been fighting with T-Mobile for over a year now. The reception has been crappy for most of the year it does get better during winter without the leaves on trees. The coverage map is joke. I've talked tech guys I live between the two towers end of their radius points and they don't cross over each other. I moved here from Tucson and I like the plan I have. In town reception is great and Denver area mostly good too. All I want is cell tower to built like Jay Rd and CO 119. I would be happy.

Verizon reception in Boulder is horrid. I've lived all over the US and never had worse reception. My phone shows 3-4 bars but I can only make calls if I'm in a perfect spot... and I never receive calls. Talking while driving is impossible because of all the dead spots. I don't know what the deal is... .250,000 people in Boulder... ..cell reception should be better. Heck, everything is frickin flat before the mountains. How come cell phones can't work?!?!

The phone displays 3-4 bars until the phone rings or I make a call, after which it is usually 1-2 bars. However, this is so much better than it was 2 years ago that I have felt blessed. I can usually get a call out, but often will not know of an incoming call until I get the VM 1-3 days later. Many dead spots around Boulder, but I feel the service functions acceptably if I ignore the cost. Reminds me of the auto industry in the 70s. I have been with ATT (now Cingular) for many years out of simple static inertia and a lack of good alternatives. I still don't know what to do.

I live near the intersection of 7th and University in Boulder. When I receive a call, I usually must dash out into the street to continue the conversation. I have also had problems getting reception when travelling in several eastern states, in areas that are home to a high density of businesses.

Sometimes spotty, but typically good. Though I can't explain why at 2:03 and 2:05 a.m the phone drops calls every single day. Also I have the problem with calls dropping getting over the hill on 36 between Superior and Boulder, like it seems so many do.
