Broadmoor Area / Lake Ave., Colorado Springs, CO 80906 Wed Jul 20, 2005

I've had terrible reception for two years in the Broadmoor area- when my contract expired, they convinced me that I just needed a phone upgrade- WRONG- with a new $200 Motorola, my reception went from bad to none at all- nary a signal. I quit the plan and switched to Sprint instead. For two years, Verizon has promised a new tower near the Broadmoor area- it never materialized.

Just traded up from a Kiocera 2325 which worked here 95% of the time perfectly to LG 6100 and went from getting reception everywhere except in front of house and the new phone doesn't get reception anywhere in the development. I can get service and have 3 antenna strips and dial a number and suddenly no service. When I have been able to make a call, nobody can hear me then the call fails. Going to exchange for a Motorola V265 tomorrow and if that doesn't work, just going to get some new batteries for the old phones and live with them until they either improve phones, improve service or we get transferred out of the Springs.

Phone shows great reception (all bars solid), but calls drop within 1 minute, or the static is so bad you can't hear anything. Changed from TDMA to GSM for the free roaming, but now I can't even do a local call. Over 80 percent of the calls are dropped, and another 10 percent you can't hear the other person, with 10 percent being fine. Don't even think about GSM with AT&T (or Cingular) with the Motorola V180... Absolutely HORRIBLE! Could be the phone instead of the service too, so beware... You would think that they could test this stuff before selling you a plan with the phone wouldn't you???

Used to have a flip phone on AT&T / Cingular. Service was awful! I Was ready to eat the Early Cancellation fee when I heard about an older dealer downtown on Pikes Peak and Nevada. This guy told me he was the only one left that still field tested cell phones. He said 80-90% were awful, built for style and features; and that people would blame the service and it was the equipment all along (He said they blame the highway and not the car). He asked me what features I absolutely needed and then sold me one of the least expensive phones he had. What a difference! He may be a little blunt and direct for some(I think he's from New york) but by far the most honest knowledgeable sales person Ive seen in all the 5 years Ive been dealing with cellular. Now my phone works in many of the areas I thought were dead spots when I used my Motorola and LG flip phones. I converted all four of my families phones over. I highly reccomend this guy to anyone in Colorado. His hours are weird but worth the wait!

Had Verizon, no bars. Had repairman at house who was on cell phone, he had Nextel. Switched to Nextel, now have 4 bars easily. First time been able to use my phone at my house. What a relief. Highly recommend Nextel for Black Forest area. Reception in other areas of Black Forest and the city is great as well.

The signal indicator keeps jumping from no bars to five bars. Once I am on the phone the sound quality is quite poor. I often cannot make a call because I get a “network busy” message. My phone can switch between analog, TDMA, and GSM, but the signal strength is always low. Phone always says “Cingular Extend” which means I am roaming. Thankfully my plan has no roaming charges.

9 out of 10 times can not make or receive a call from house. Even outdoors I am lucky to get 2 bars. Verizon coverage maps at their store showed this area and the whole Black Forest covered. When I specifically asked what signal level the coverage siginified, I was told at least 3 bars. I get 1 bar 90% of the time and I am only 2 miles from I-70.

This is true before the Cingular merger and since then also. Any time I get a call and I'm in the Ivywild neighborhood, I let it go to voicemail now. I can not hear them, they can't hear me... Why pay for the minutes? It's a waste or time and effort!

Changed from ATT TDMA. Reception did not improve. Not worth trying to make any important calls in this area. Desperately looking at changing service, if only because of lack of service from ATT / Cingular.

I am so unhappy. I went from reliable AT&T TDMA to Cingular GSM after the change over. I can get 5 bars in most of town but I can only talk for about ten minutes at any point before the phone drops the call. I have never had a call that was over 15 minutes that didn't drop. The bars dwindle to 1 and then the call drops. As soon as the call drops the phone goes back to 5 bars. AAAAARRRRGGGGH! This is the second v551. I had the first replaced as a warranty problem after 25 days. This happens in Denver / Aspen / Colorado Springs on the highway / at my house etc. I really want to go back to TDMA, it worked and only dropped when there was no tower. Now I am stuck with a 2 year GSM plan. Never again.

I have to stand in upstairs window to have a chance at keeping call from disconnect. Verizon says they have "future" plans for a new tower in north Colorado Springs... hope it's soon!

Actually this is west of the intersection. Reception goes from 4 bars to 0-1 as you go west on Vickers 0.1 to 0.2 miles - you are entering a valley, but it is wide open to the west.

Reception here has been bad since 2000. They say that they are adding more 'cells' but no change has been noticed. Changed to GSM and nothing changed.

At my house, I get "average" to "good" AT&T reception during the morning, during the afternoon coverage drops to no reception and switches to a very static ROAM (Verizon) coverage. Why is there good coverage in the morning, and no coverage in the afternoon? Solar disturbances?

AT&T on the GSM network has poor to no coverage on most of the west side of Colorado Springs. Dropped calls happen regularly at 32nd St & W Colorado Ave. heading west all the way into Manitou Springs at Manitou Ave and Crystal Park Rd. The AT&T GSM network also drops calls on Uintah & 24th St up to Uintah & 30th St. The reception has gotten worse since they have announced that "AT&T customers have twice the coverage."

Sprint has pretty decent coverage in North Central Colorado Springs. I use my cell as a home phone and once-in-awhile get a call dropped when inside my apartment. I'd rate coverage inside at 3.5 and outside at 4.0 out of 5.0. Remember that coverage also depends on the phone being used.
