Something happened 1-2 months ago. Reception is now perfect (5 bars or 100%, used to be about 3-4), but connections are actually sketchy. Cellular telephone call quality is worse, and wireless broadband has higher speed but frequent dropouts. Latency and jitter are much worse than two months ago. I have no idea what's going on, although I'm guessing that someone might have installed one of those "home cell towers" that route through a landline-based ISP. It's getting tricky...

On my old Samsung phone, I thought it was just the ancient phone's fault for only getting a single bar at my house. Now, with my new Razr, I can see that it's Verizon's fault - I still rarely see more than a single bar, and often I have no reception at all. I warn my friends to leave a message rather than simply giving up; this way the Voice Mail still rings me when I wouldn't otherwise ever even receive the call.
