I work in Foggy Bottom and have found very good reception in DC. I regularly have 4-5 bars and my data service runs at full 3G speed. The only exception is the Metro, where calls drop in the tunnels and data service often falls back to RTT.

I have Verizon. The only place I don't get reception is in the tunnels of the Metro (the stations are fine) and at some bigger stores, such as Target. I live in Fairfax County and work in NW DC. Too bad Verizon doesn't believe in selling cutting edge phones.

I have used AT&T G-3 wireless network in out of the way places like Cheraw, SC with perfect coverage. It is ideal for the traveling business man or tourist.

I have a G1 (Android) and I get great service in my house and ok serivce at work South Dakota Ave NE. My web is also fast at both, but then again I also have a great phone. I had TMobile Flexpay for a year now and bill has been $104 - $106 EVERY month for 600min+myfaves+unl text / web+insurance (against loss!)+callertunes. I now have the option to have unl calls / text / web for $5 less but I don't want to lose myfaves (I never have overages). Sprint was my very first carrier, I hated their service most then customer service. Bills were ALWAYS a huge variation every month. Phone always OFF on $125 deposit. Phones were ok but I was always unhappy =( Then I had Boost. Service was even worse than Sprint which I thought was impossible. Get messages sometimes even a day later or not at all. Slowest web even. No 3G. No smartphones. No qwerty phones. Hated CHIRPING. Prices were great at $50 unl with no overages, phones were ok but always failed within months. (I got my white G1 in January and just replaced it from a loss but couldve sold it for $200 easy.) Then I had Virgin Mobile for a month since they had a fairly priced slider and $70 unlimited plan. Service was good. I HATED my phone and it was the best one they had to offer at the time. This was Dec 08 and they had that red and black slider. OMG I don't even remember what it was called. Web was only slightly faster than Boost but slower than Sprint. I dumped them in January 09 and have been HAPPY ever since!

Great service. I did a 30-day trial with T-Mobile and didn't get past 9 days before I sent the phone back. AT&T will have my loyalty for a long time.

New AT&T EDGE system did not drop out at all during a recent visit all around DC and Arlington. No reception on the Metro while underground, however. Perfect voice. Emails and messages popped in while metro was crossing the bridges.

Sprint has really improved the DC area. I chose Sprint over everyone else, primarily because of the great coverage I have in my apartment. I'm located deep in the building with no outside windows, only one inside window which stairs at some fire escapes and a cement wall. Verizon coverage was ok (fluctuates between 2 bars to 5 bars and you notice clipping when on conversations). Cingular's clipping was more noticeable, but had the same 2 bars to 5 bars reception issue. T-Mobile fluctuates between 1 bar to 4 bars and sometimes drops the call. Since my cell is my only phone, coverage in my apartment was pretty important, so Sprint won out because of my close proximity to a tower located on the exterior of a building up the street. As far as coverage in the area, Sprint has a lot of weak spots once you get out of the downtown area, but I have roaming included with my plan, and when out in the boonies, I just force my phone to roam on Verizon. I'm satisfied with the price I'm paying and the quality of the conversations where I have proper signal. I notice that calls seem to be clearer on Sprint than when I'm roaming on Verizon. Also the Razr phone I have seems to give headaches if I talk too long on Verizon. I don't get the same headaches when using Sprint. I don't know if this has something to do with different rf emission on Sprint's 1900 PCS versus Verizon digital 800.

Hate to say it because I am irritated at the company and the software in this cheapie phone, but the reception is flawless here, inside or out. Not as good in Bethesda and disapears altogether going out 66 to Virginia.

Despite being told that reception is poor here, near the Russian embassy and down in a valley, I've been pleasantly surprised. Consistent good signal and sound quality.

Great reception on 99% of the campus. Verizon, as well as all of the other carriers, do not seem to have reception on the first floor of the Marvin Center. Elsewhere in the DC metro area, Verizon has spectacular coverage. They even have reception in the Metro underground!

Verizon Wireless service is great throughout the entire city for the most part. Also very good for when I travel. I have service in the underground subway system in DC, New York and Boston. I haven't tried my cellphone underground in any other cities.
