I was so pumped when I got my Smartphone about a year ago, but I was living in Missouri at the time. Since I moved to DC about 9 months ago, I have been regretting my purchase, because my phone doesn't work with any other carriers except T-Mobile (of which I have not heard great things) and I can't have a conversation on this phone inside my house or in my office building. I haven't switched yet is because I use Windows music player and Outlook all the time and I have a 2nd cell from work (Sprint) that gets decent reception. Cingular also works great almost everywhere else in the country, and I travel a fair amount. All the same, maybe I should switch... I know Verizon does well in DC, but does anyone know how well it works in the rest of the country? What about international roaming... ?

No reception whatsoever in buildings on Bolling AFB, and no reception in most areas away from buildings and trees! I have to go all the way down to the waterfront to get any decent amount of reception! Most of the time, I have to go near a certain window in my building to get reception, and even then it's only 2 bars max! I'm not sure if it's Cingular or the phone, but i'm thinking that i'll be switching to Verizon in the near future!

Cingular is a reference to the number of bars. I want to throw my phone at the TV everytime I see a Cingular commercial.

It would be nice to one day make a call from my house that doesn't drop and require me to go outside to finish a conversation.

About 70% of calls are dropped when I'm lucky enough to get through for a call. Roommates' Verizon and Sprint phones come through splendidly.

I concur with the earlier customer's comments about the cellular reception at this address. I became a Cingular customer in October 2005. I didn't want trouble connecting with a new service and phone and was told by Cingular representatives that my model Motorola was known to work in basements had average receptivity. I purchased the phone and the service based on this. Around January 2006 service dropped. I spent months on the phone with Cingular and even time talking to their technicians about the towers. Service reps have been helpful and polite but can't do much except provide minutes back for dropped calls. They claim that a structure must have been built between this address and the Cingular tower between this address and the tower; thus, blocking line-of-site. This August 2006, service has been better. Is it cloud coverage boucing better signals back? Perhaps. I drop calls several times every day with Cingular. I hear Verizon works better at this location.

I get good to great reception everywhere, but a sad lonely one bar in the house. Unless I'm pressed against the windows, I don't get anything and frequently miss calls. Even sitting at the window I'll drop a 30-min call 2 or 3 times. All my roommates get fine reception with their phones. Aaarrghhh!

I just switched from Sprint. Reception in my office was quite good. Now I can't take or make a call with Cingular on the new phone.

there's a sink hole around my house here. I can't use my phone at home. its bad enough and Cingular's response is so poor that i'm considering paying to cancel the contract.

Sprint gives very poor reception in some low lying areas of DC, so am considering switching to Verizon which seems to get great coverage everywhere. Have even lost coverage in other non-low lying busy areas.
