I've lived through the changes from United Cellular, AT&T Wireless, Bell South, and back to AT&T Wireless and the signal has stayed the same since At&T first took over. Signal strength ranges from 2 bars to full depending on where I am in the house but 4 bars average any where around here. On the way to Panama City it seems all carriers lose signal around Merial Lake on Hwy. 77. Need a tower in that location. Unlike many others I'm impressed with AT&T in and around Panama City and all way to Miami on the Interstate and Turnpike. Signal is excellent in Miami areas.

When ATT first took over cingular, the signal was great. But for the last few weeks it has gone to nothing. No signal in Washington county unless you are extremely close to the tower on Holmes Valley road.

When I first went to Nextel a few years back, I didn't have any trouble, rarely was there an area I didn't have some bars, but since Sprint and Nextel combined... .forget it... I have to step outside of the house to keep a phone call or to beep anyone, plus there are quite a few areas between here and the Alabama line and on the way to Panama City my phone cuts in and out, specially near Hwy. 20

Sprint coverage area shows "fair / good coverage" in chipley, however, there is only "roaming" coverage with 1-2 bars. The areas on "their" map that do say roaming, are actually DEAD ZONES. If you do get a signal / roaming you will get an Alltell message and can not place the call. I contacted Sprint today, and they stated that there is a tower less than 1 / 2 mile from my home. There is nothing they can do about lack of coverage, and if I left Sprint, there would be "no hard feelings". Problem is, buyer beware, they false advertise their coverage areas... ...

I get no bars! If I am lucky to have an outside call make it in long enough for my phone to think about ringing it immediately disconnects.

There aren't any towers to service the Washington County area or surrounding counties North of Bay County. Reception may be better closer to Chipley or Mariana, Florida but I doubt it.

I have no problem with the Florida Panhandle for signal unless I am around the Esto area or the Sand Hills (Quail Hallow). No matter where I go I always get around 3-4 bars, with 4 bars being max signal. To the people who have poor signal around SR2 / US231, it is because that Alltel tower wasn't converted to Verizon, it was shutdown and was supposed to be decommisioned, but the wireless internet people took it over with their old failed technology they sold your counties for wireless internet which is more expensive than they tell you. Another part of cell signal is the cheaper the phone the crappier antenna you will have. Also, this area is getting upgrades soon, an engineer friend of mine told me that the Verizon towers are being upgraded for 4G rollout in the Panama City market, and will go live with the new stuff within a few months. Another signal factor is the southern pines absorb the signal badly, the more there is around you the worse signal will be, and the more people are using a specific tower the less range and power it has to push signal to you. I used to work as a CSRII for Verizon Wireless.
