When we moved here from South Florida 13 years ago with our analog bag phones we had great signal strength. Now with the new digital phones we have no cellular service in our home or within three miles. Alltel promised me that they were going to be improving this service area with new towers. It has not happened and there are none planned at this time. The way I see it I am paying Alltel for a service they are not supplying. However they want me to pay $200 per phone to cancel the service they are not providing.

Sprint and Virgin: Touch and go. I had Sprint when I moved here 5 years ago, but went with Alltel instead. I'm relatively happy with the service they have in the rural areas I frequent.

I live 9 miles nw of high springs and when we had the hurricanes several years back my cell was the only one that worked. There are areas in gainesville the have dead spots that could be better.

Great reception in this area. I can make the trip all the way to Live Oak without dropping a call. Cingular rocks.

I get 1 bar outside and none at all inside the house. I have "roaming" on my service plan, but it never works. People will call me and won't get through, or my outbound calls will sound horrible. Switching to Cingular despite the outrageous $200 fee!

I live in Gilchrist County just off of County Rd.340, not far from CR 47. Half the time I have no bars at all and half the time I can get one bar. Alot of my calls get dropped and alot of times when I go to make a call it wont go through and I'll get this message that I have to redial the last 10 digets, at which point I have to completely turn my phone off and then back on again before dialing the # again. Numerous times I've had to do this twice before I can get the call to go through. What if I needed to call 911 because someone broke into my home and I was hiding in a closet, the sound that the phone makes when turning the phone on and off would alert them to my presence. And then sometimes it gives me the message that I have a 0 balance and that I need to add funds before I can make a call. Again I have to turn the phone off and back on again, even though I still have weeks before I have to add funds. My neice who lives down the street from me and my Mother-in-law who lives in Ohio and stays with us in the winter brought her Verizon phone with her and they also have the same reception problems. I had Boost Mobile for years and didn't have these problems but I didn't like the choice of prepaid phones so thats why I switched to Verizon. As soon as they get a better phone for texting I'm switching back to Boost if the problems don't improve with Verizon.

We get no reception at all inside our home, but if we walk about 20-30 feet north of our home we can get 1 bar. We get a LOT of disconnects! Coverage sporatic when we travel to Gainesville or Ocala - anywhere from lousy to great. We first got this in West Palm Beach and it was every bit as bad there (we lived off Military Trail, about 3 miles south of VA Hospital). Verizon reps give us the runaround. We will switch as soon as we can - and hope for the best (or, at least, better).
