Verizon signal useless in the Inverness Highlands. Verizon let me out of my contract (no penalty) because of the total lack of service. Switched to Embarq wireless and their service works inside the house.
I've found the reception to be really good with Alltel all over Inverness and the surrounding area here. I've got family that lives in a number of locations in city but Alltel is consistently on 4-5 bars. I get a full signal around Citrus high school and hospital. Also a full signal around Wal-Mart area on 44. Drops off a little inside but not near as bad as former Verizon phone. I can still make a call throughout. No dead areas or dropped calls. Be sure to compare prices too, Alltel seems to give more minutes for the price than other providers and is a good option here. I also love the My Circle unlimited calling to any 10 numbers which is a good features others don't have. Finally, I do agree with another poster that a better phone picks up better reception. I always go with Motorola and I've noticed a difference between how calls sound on it and a family member's Kyocera phone.
service is good. I did find in my area the more exspensive the phone the better the service. I had the 19.99 phone then bought the 209.00 Now I can talk in the house, and not have to go outside to talk.
Dropped Cingular for no reception in the neighborhood. Switched to Verizon - Very poor 1 bar reception anywhere on the street and constant dropped calls. Verizon ignores this part of Florida. Be Warned !
Was told Cingular had a tower or two in the area, if there are, they must not be putting out much power. Reception sucks to say the least. 1 bar, if I'm lucky, and trying to hear someone on the other end of the call is next to useless. Will never have another Cingular acct after this one is up. Phone isn't even good for paperweight!
I had great reception here with my old Nokia 5165--with Cingular, but the new Motorola phone is terrible. Perhaps because the new phone is on GSM... and the old phone was on analog most of the time. With the Nokia, I had 4 bars of service, but only about 25 minutes talk time (because of the model of the phone). I did NOT make a good trade off... talk time vs. service / reception. I may buy the new Nokia flip when Cingular offers it... hopefully, that will help.
I agree with the other Verizon person, I had Sprint and only got one bar. With Verizon, I cant even get network coverage at my house. Phone goes back tomorrow. No I can't hear anything now.
