Constantly dropped calls, set phone down on table and not move it and it can go from 1 bar to none to 1 bar to none. Outside of the house is not much better, one bar.
Nextel is the worst in Jacksonville. I just moved here from Gainesville with my Nextel phone and I rarely get reception at work, or driving anywhere. The worst thing is I can't get reception at home. Also, nothing is more frustrating then trying to talk to someone on direct connect when you can 't get a signal. All you get is that annoying beep when it doesn't go through.
I'm very happy with Cingular's coverage all over Jacksonville. I have homes in Orange Park and Ponte Vedra and work in Southside - very rarely find myself with poor coverage.
Calls go to VM without ever being received on phone- not reflected in "missed messages" or "incoming messages". VM takes up to ten minutes to post to mailbox. Sometimes notice of VM message received, sometimes VM are in mailbox with no notification. Signal varies from good to non-existent for no rhymn or reason throughout Duval. Contract up next month and I'm outta there- no more Sprint for me.
Ok, here's the skinny on reception in Girvin Road. It is horrible no matter the carrier due to the swamp, the landfill and the where it is located in the flight pattern. We experienced signal flux no matter who we were with (my family has had service with all the carriers listed above while living in this area. They all have had poor service in this area of town, They all dropped calls on Girvin.). This not a reflection on the carriers but rather the location. Yes, it is a frustrating situation. I travel the entire width of Jacksonville and have found over the past five years that Cingular has the most consistent service. They also perform well in the less populated areas along the road to Gainesville and Pensacola. T-Mobile also performs well. However, T-Mobile does suffer from signal flux along the intercostals between Mayport and Fernandina. This is not good if you are using your cell phone as a safety precaution while at our state parks.
Today is 5 / 26. Signal was fine 2 - 3 bars until 5 / 19. Now only 1-2 until I try to make a call then 0-1 bars, mostly 0 bars, conversation breaks up, miss 1 / 2 of the words. Called Cingular on 5 / 24 - said for some reason my phone did not recieve a recent software update. asked me to turn my phone off and on and off. Then asked me to turn it on and leave it on all night so software could be downloaded. Problem still exists. Will call them again. Wish me luck!
