I've had Nextel for a few years now and at first it was great but it seems that since the fall of 2004 it has slide downward to awful. Now not only do I experience "NO SERVICE" all around town but I've been dropping calls all over town too and it's never in the same spot from week to week except near my home northwest of pritchard, where I'm lucky if I can make a call and luckier if I can finish the call before I get dropped.
I have Sprint PCS and the reception in the house is "H-O-R-R-I-B-L-E"... .my husband is disgusted by having to go outside to take his calls... .I could be sitting on my couch in the same position talking to someone and God forbid I turn my head the signal fades... .It looks like I may switch to Verizon or Nextel... .Digital / Analog roam constantly pop up on my phone... ... not sure what Sprint can do about it but I'll be 1 less customer off their network.
I was on Sprint's service for a while and once they had the tower constructed in the area, service was excellent. I am on Cingular now and back in the previous boat, reception is below acceptable quality. I am not happy with the Motorola V220, calls drop with cut-out and charging problems.
Service inside buildings is extremely bad to none at all. My phone regularly roams to other carriers (I even had Sprint reimburse me for the charges). I have called Sprint on this several time with no solution.
In the neighborhood, I only get 3-4 bars; however, my calls are never dropped. Others I know who have other services (T-Mobile, Cingular, Sprint... ) continually have dropped calls. Even though service is just ok, I would recommend Verizon over all the other carriers.
With Alltel I rarely get more than 1 bar of service, and 10-12 dropped calls monthly from calls inside the home. Cingular usually has 2-3 bars in the same places. Other than this area of Mandarin, Alltel service in Jacksonville is quite good, with more even coverage than Cingular.
I go to Baymeadows everyday to work. Baymeadows area, I have about 2 bars, which works fine for me. Downtown, I always have 3-4 bars outside, if I'm inside buildings downtown, I can have anywhere from 1-3 bars. Some buildings are better than others. Riverside (where I live), I have the worst reception when your inside (it's great outside), but no other companies are much better inside of any buildings in that area. Northside and Arlington, I have great reception. Beaches and Westside is fair. I can have my phone in my back pocket and it almost always has reception and I don't have any problems getting my voicemail a couple of minutes after the person has called if I'm out of my service area.
Reception is not very good in the East Arlington area. I also get a lot of dropped calls during rush hour. I have no signal downtown Jax while at work, unless I go outside of buildings. Verizon is what I'm looking at now or Cingular.
