I can barely make any phone call in the house. Its not always one bar, it varies between one and three bars and floats up and down. lots of dropped calls... Started when AT&T went upgradelng cingular towers.
Nextel has great signal here, but not so great customer service and billing practices. I will stay with cingular. They may not have the best signal here but the customer service is A+, and to me thats what matters.
This comment is about the EMBARQ wireless service. Okeechobee county is served by EMBARQ for its local service. I was on there web site paying my bill and saw they offer wireless. So I figure why not give them a try. I did and the reception in this area was better then I expected. I come to find out that there service is provided by SPRINT PCS. I think that once all the NEXTEL towers are shut down and converted to SPRINT then Sprint and EMBARQ will be the service to have is this community. The phone I am using is a UT Starcom 7075. Its a farily new brand but seems to have better reception in rural areas, then the higher priced well known brand names.
When I call Cingular they tell me that I live in a medium coverage area. Well thats hard to believe since I can only get 1 or 2 bars in my house or walking the neighborhood. Once you get out to the highway the service is great. I have not been to, to many places where the phone will not work great. Except at home. I called and Cingular said there is only 2 towers for this county. One of which always goes down at the same time every month.
I couldn't wait to dump my Nextel service; they refused to give me any credit for non-existent service during the critical hurricane aftermath. (The rep "couldn't believe" we'd been so severely damaged--we were declared a DISASTER AREA... DUHH!). Anyway, despite Nextel's customer service incompetance, I went with Verizon and barely get 1 bar at any given time! And thats with clear, sunny skies! I'm in healthcare and physicians and patients get pretty upset with dropped calls and VERY poor reception. Shouldn't have switched.
