I have been using Samsung and previously LG phones during my past 5 years association with AT and T (previously Cingular). I have NEVER had the problems the previous writers have stated. One note though, I have a friend living in the Timuquana Road / Catoma area and within his house I FREQUENTLY experience dropped calls and / or no signal. If I call his house and pass over 103rd and I-295, the call drops. So maybe what others are experiencing is NOT the carrier but the phone manufacturer or model. My friends complain because I send and receive calls inside Sam's, BJ's and yes, the gym at NAS Jax and they are left high and dry. maybe I'm wrong, but I think its the type of phone matched with your carrier.
Has great reception in my house and throughout Oakleaf Plantation. T-Mobile does a decent job in this area. There is one area on Branan Field and Plantation Oaks Pkwy. that always drops calls. Also does not work at NAS JAX, Russel Rd in various spots and some spots along I95 through St. Augustine. Overalll for the price and the FANTASTIC customer service- a great buy.
I have little to no reception. I have tried other Nokia phones and nothing works. I have spoken numerous time to AT and T. The phone doesn't work in the house, nor outside. It is all over my area.
Reception outside is 1 - 2 bars, idoors changes a lot from searching... to 1 - 2 bars. Verizon signal is good in the area. All T-mobile, Sprint, Nextel as expected don't work in the place I live. I have dropped few calls in the area with ATT. Hope they put more towers soon.
I have had more dropped calls with Cingular than I ever had with T-Mobile, my previous carrier. But on a straight up comparison, Cingular wins because even though there are certain areas where I have poor reception, overall I can count on being able to make a phone call and not be roaming.
Checked reception rating at time of posting, usually in the 2 - 4 range in mostly all of Orange Park area. I have been with Verizon for about 4 1 / 2 years now using the services (calls, txt, etc) multiple times daily and I don't remember the last dropped call (my side dropping) I had. They have a great coverage area, including areas besides major roads and highways which most providers cover (at least from looking at some of the competitor's coverage maps).
Nextel reception on Fleming Island is absolutely horrible. I have yet to have a conversation without the call dropping at least once. On clear days, I can manage 3 bars on the phone, and on cloudy days 1-2 bars and most of time NO SERVICE.
I am extremely happy with Cingular overall. there prices are the best in the business and bell south cuts you a deal on the package in my area. The nokias are very good for reception but one major downfall is the receiver doesn't have alot of volume, hard to hear in a noisy enviroment. The motorolas have very good receiver volume, but horrible signal reception. With aquisition of AT+T they also have an extremely good coverage area. I highly recommend them - best bang for the buck.
