Downtown St. Pete, Saint Petersburg, FL 33712 Wed Mar 07, 2012

Verizon 3G data is fair in the downtown St. Petersburg area, and consistent all the way to the beaches, and works on the skyway piers. Can anyone comment on 4G connectivity for Verizon in Tampa / St Pete?

I've been living in Coquina Key, St. Petersburg for two years and have had terrible cell phone reception, whether in the house or outside. Previously, living in Seminole, my reception was perfect and used my cell phone as my only phone. My new smartphone has a weather app that automatically detects what city you are in, and seems to think I'm in Apollo Beach or Ruskin, which is across the bay from me..which means that the local signal is so weak that sometimes I'm getting the signal from across Tampa Bay. I get constant fluctuations of 0-3 bars, often within a few seconds time span, but usually only 0-1 bar. Calls get garbled and drop frequently.

Coverage varies... .but generally it is 3 bars occasionally... but more often 2 bars... .once in a while, with a good "rabbit ears" type of gyrating with the phone pverhead and turning, I might get 4bars, briefly.

I know some homes are old down here so the fact that cement is blocking most of my signal, I get it, its not Verizon its my home. I moved from New York with VZW and never had an issue there. Here its kinda bad to okay. If I go outside and walk around for a bit then it gets better but in the house its pretty bad. Anytime I travel; however, the service could not get better. I get 8 bars (that's right 8) and for not being a smart phone it gets going pretty fast.

I have tried Sprint, ATT, and Boost. I now have Verizon with no reception at all. The only one close is Boost but their phones are terrible.

No dropped calls, but signal - thus sound quality - still are well below average when compared to other areas. Many with other carriers that I know get even worse coverage. Verizon here, although not good, is best. Verizon: Get with the program and do some updating!

I have to say that while not absolutely perfect, Verizon Wireless has been good for me. At peak drive times, calls often go straight to voice mail while I sit at my desk, but otherwise coverage is good throughout southern Pinellas County. About 25% of the time a call will be dropped on the Howard Frankland bridge, but dropped calls are otherwise rare. I travel extensively and find Verizon coverage to be largely reliable. Uh, no, I don't work for them and wish I had an iPhone, but you guys scare me about AT&T.

Verizon is the best in this area. There are very few holes in coverage. T-Mobile and Cingular have many reception problems in this area.

I have never had a dropped call with Verizon wireless. From the beaches on the coast to inside the St. Pete Times Forum (nobody else had phones that worked inside the building), and ALL THE WAY on the Howard Franklin... verizon wireless is the best option to be found if you live anywhere in the tampa bay area from Clearwater to Tampa, and south into St. Petersburg.

My cell phone is useless in the house and useless until I walk out into the middle of the street, at which point I can SOMETIMES get a weak signal. Apparently, there are problems with reception all along this street, as it's common to see neighbors walking around outside talking on their wireless phones. I rented a place three minutes from here before I bought this house and reception was fine there. Go figure. I'm in the middle of St. Petersburg, FL and I can't use my cell phone. What's more, Verizon doesn't seem to give a flying f--k. My contract is up in December and I am outta here. Will make sure I don't sign on for the long haul with any other carrier until I'm sure I can use my freakin' phone at home.

Tried Verizon for 10 days. No reception to poor reception, even though they indicated the tower at Coquina Plaza (when did that go up - hadn't noticed it before) is Verizon. Also, poor reception inside in Palm Harbor.

Verizon indicated the tower in the plaza just off the island was theirs, but apparently it is pointed N and W. Signal bars varied dramatically, but had problems making calls even with good signal bars. Would dial, and dial and then call fail many times. Dropped calls frequently. I was very disappointed because I am not far from Cobia Drive. I also found worse reception in my office in Palm Harbor than with my TDMA Cingular phone or TDMA AT&T Free2Go phone. And, worse in Ft. Myers at relative's house. Worked great when I was in San Antonio, TX though! Still looking for a carrier.

Even with 1 signal bar the phone sounds loud and crystal clear. I can even eluminate an entire room in the dark because of how bright the display is, and the ringtones are the best! Jack R. Cook
