My T-Mobile downtown saint pete coverage is horrible. At home I go 4-8 hours without reception with 1-3 hours of reception inbetween blackouts. Red Mesa Cantina I get no reception that whole block either 90% of the time. The other 10% of the time is because I got on the 3rd floor rooftop and danced around for reception. Driving off from Publix on 3rd AVE S. I had no reception. God save me that I don't have a heart attack while home or nearby in downtown St. Pete. Paramedics will see me dead with a phone clinched in my hands and laugh thinking what a dumb ass not to call 911.

I've had AT&T for years--great reception most everywhere in downtown St. Petersburg-- including inside buildings. Only had one dropped call in several years and that was on the Howard Franklin Bridge. AT&T (and Cingular before them) has always given me four and five bars. I'm off contract and could switch anytime, but I'm staying with AT&T !

I find the entire downtown area of St. Pete, especially the Baywalk and Bayfront areas, have no reception at all. I don't know if this is because there are a couple of hospitals in that area, causing some kind of interference with phone reception, or if it's the AT&T phone service.

New company phone. Had Alltel with bad phone but fair to good reception. New phone is with Sprint and poor to no reception, sometimes roam, sometimes nothing. Have had phone ring but can't connect (dropped calls). Cannot connect to voicemail to get lost messages. Can't get signal in my cube and little outside of building. Should have stayed with Alltel. Never go with Sprint again.

Nextel is by far the worst carrier I have ever used. I called to try to find out what I could do about it, the CSR told me that 9 out of 18 towers were out.

I live downtown and used to get reception at Baywalk with AT&T TDMA. And even in the beginning with GSM a year ago it was fine. But in the past six months or so, 9 times out of 10 I do not get a signal in or near Baywalk. Everyone else I know with other carriers gets a signal. Sometimes my phone will search for another provider and end up with "Voicestream" but not often enough. Does this mean TMobile is actually *better* than AT&T?

I have to say that while not absolutely perfect, Verizon Wireless has been good for me. At peak drive times, calls often go straight to voice mail while I sit at my desk, but otherwise coverage is good throughout southern Pinellas County. About 25% of the time a call will be dropped on the Howard Frankland bridge, but dropped calls are otherwise rare. I travel extensively and find Verizon coverage to be largely reliable. Uh, no, I don't work for them and wish I had an iPhone, but you guys scare me about AT&T.

Had AT&T tdsm with ok reception. Then Cingular with gsm and got a little better reception. Now with the new AT&T I get a below average signal. I've callled them several times and they do some kind of reset and reception remains bad. Their rep told me that I would receive good reception 200 feet north of my house. Sure, when I need to use my cell I'll walk 200 feet down my street. I have 4-5 bars then it drops to 0-1. Can't use in house. Contract expires in 2 months, will find new company!

Verizon is the best in this area. There are very few holes in coverage. T-Mobile and Cingular have many reception problems in this area.

I have dropped calls every single time. It's so bad there are days I cannot even access my voicemail. My phone frequently goes into "emergency only" mode. Seemed to have gotten worse after AT&T merged with Cingular. I am so steamed I am ready to pay $$$ to terminate the contract early.

I am regularly roaming in my area on Sprint. Often times, people call me and don't get VM but instead get a recording as if the phone has been disconnected. Was MUCH better with Verizon. Considering checking into TMobile.

Cannot make calls from inside house or close to house outside. Have to walk into the street -- and even then the calls drop. Love my phone, but service is horrible. I think I'll give Verizon a try when my contract is up in a few months.

No problems with T-Mobile for 18 months. No signal at times on middle of Gandy Bridge. Common for all phones as far as I can tell. Only consistent dropped calls are with Nextel callers

I was with AT&T and my service was good. When they merged with Cingular, my service was average, but declined each month to the point that I would have no bars and could not use my phone at home at all. Cingular stated that I needed a new phone and needed to be on the GSM network in order to get quality service. The problem was that they would not honor the plan that I had originally signed up for with AT&T, hence, they did not have a phone to sell me. I contacted the public relations department and still no resolution. I talked with someone from the Office of the President's office and the rep provided me with some options, better than what was being offered on the site, and sent me a free SLVR phone. After a couple days of using Cingular, now on the "optimal" GSM network, which turned out to be terrible. I contacted Cingular and they said it could be the device. They sent me another SLVR. The reception was still terrible. Friends and family who called said my voice was muffled and skipping. Same problem when trying to hear them, also, I could hear clicks, and buzzing sounds. I switched to Sprint, which so far has been clear reception. I used to like Cingular, but I'm disappointed in their service and technical support. There motto is raising the bar. I hardly had a one bar. They are also pitching they have the fewest dropped calls, but what about the service in general. Perhaps they do have the fewest dropped calls, but that wasn't my issue. I couldn't hear the person on the other end and they couldn't hear me. Hopefully they'll fix their systems so other Cingular users don't have to deal with these frustrations.

My cell phone is useless in the house and useless until I walk out into the middle of the street, at which point I can SOMETIMES get a weak signal. Apparently, there are problems with reception all along this street, as it's common to see neighbors walking around outside talking on their wireless phones. I rented a place three minutes from here before I bought this house and reception was fine there. Go figure. I'm in the middle of St. Petersburg, FL and I can't use my cell phone. What's more, Verizon doesn't seem to give a flying f--k. My contract is up in December and I am outta here. Will make sure I don't sign on for the long haul with any other carrier until I'm sure I can use my freakin' phone at home.
