Former AT&T GSM customer now switched to Cingular. Most of the places I get a good signal, down at the Capitol (where I work) I get good solid 5 bars everywhere but the lower level and parking garage. This coverage is maintained pretty well around the downtown area, and as far north as Bannerman Rd. At my house I have a hard time finding a good 'zone'... coverage can be anywhere from 3 bars to none in less than a few inches. I've determined this must be the construction of the house... I have a hard time getting my wireless to work well in some spots as well (sometimes less than 10 feet away from the Access Point.) Walk upstairs or outside and it gets an avg. 4 bars.
My reception with Cingular Sucks at this location. Sometimes I don't get a signal and rarely I will get 3 bars usually after turning the phone off then back on. My wife has T-Moble and her reception is fine.
We used to get a fairly good signal here on 4 different phones (3 Nokia, 1 Treo). Lately we have to go outside just to to make a call and frequently get dropped. We always had good service when we were a US Cellular market. When AT&T took over it got worse and now with Cingular it's a joke. 8 more months on the contract and it'll be SEE-YA CINGULAR!
My company supplies this phone for me to use. I travel to the west as far as the Apalachacola river and I've used it to the east to Jacksonville. Along the highway reception is very good, get off the interstate and go a mile or two and no bars. In Tallahasse reception is average, I know when I'm at the satalite complex reception will be very weak. Some other places I also lose coverage but with nothing to compare it to I can't say how other brands would do. I do know the Alltel phone I had before this one would have much better coverage off the highway, even in the piney back woods.
Have had Sprint for almost 2 years. Constantly throughout Tallahassee I will have my calls dropped. Can't even use my phone in my own driveway! Hate my phone and the service!
When I am inside city limits everything is fine but when I get beyond "the city" the reception is very poor. Also, heaven help me if the phone sees a tree - instantly either one bar or none. When I arrive at home I have one bar at the end of my drive way but by the time I finish pulling in I have none. I don't recommend T Mobile for anyone not living in the main portion of town.
Alltel is amazing. I had Sprint PCS when I first moved here 4 years ago and I can tell you to forget about using your phone on game day. With Alltel I can tell you that it is much better being able to get out most of the time on those Saturdays. On top of that my phone works in the library and in the mall two places that are hard to get out of.
The reception in my apt is so so. I get 3-5 bars inside and the calls are dropped occasionally. I usually manually switch to "Cingular" indoors and the service is fabulous. Outdoors, everything is fine. Service in Tallahassee is decent, provided you don't stray too far away from the city. I went to St. Marks and Crawfordville with the ATT phone and service was also iffy there. If you like venturing into the nearby towns, get Alltel (or Verizon)
