AT&T SUCKS. Do NOT buy the iPhone if you live in this area. At first, thought it was my house... it doesn't even work 1 / 3 mile from my house. When it does work in the South Tampa, St.Pete area, it's spotty at best. Constant dropped calls, inbound calls go straight to voicemail and then I don't even get notified of new voicemail for days sometimes. Texts are just as bad... I have to be in just the right spot with my phone at the perfect angle (don't know what that is yet... always different) for any message to go out. They come in at completely random times. I even went so far as to forward calls to my Verizon FiOS home number when at home but that doesn't even work dependably enough. STAY AWAY FROM AT&T! Wife has Droid with Sprint and gets great coverage all over. Her only complaint is battery life but I'm sure she's got auto-fetch and other battery-eater settings enabled.

I have the old 3G and no need for a landline since my iPhone gets great coverage. Been here for a year and dropped one call whereas my wife has a Verizon Blackberry Curve and gets one bar. AT&T is rock solid and I downloaded data wicked fast even before I got my own wi-fi. Love my iPhone on AT&T. Many friends / coworkers switched to Verizon to get the Droid but complain of sucky reception and slooow data download / upload. Verizon over promises and under-delivers on service. I'm sorry, I couldn't hear you. Droid does what?

I moved to Tampa three months ago, from Jacksonville. My phone has not worked since I got here. If I walk around my house hitting send over and over again, sometimes I am lucky enough to get through but it's very rare and it never lasts (and it's very difficult to hear the person on the other line). I have yet to make it through a phone call without losing service, on those rare times I can get through at all. I gave it a reception rating of 1, because there is a very tiny chance of getting reception. But it is much closer to a rating of 0, because I have zero reception most of the time.

I have been an ATT customer for 10 years and I have had enough! I am a contractor so I work in Tampa and surrounding areas. Westchase is a joke, my house in Carrollwood is a bigger joke. About a one mile stretch of road from N Dale Mabry on Bearss towards I75 is a dropped call nightmare. North Reddington Beach, better be out side opposite the gulf to get a single bar. They may have the best global coverage, but I would just like my phone to work in Tampa first-then I'll worry about Finland!

I think it is true when Cingular says they have the fewest missed calls. In the past, my problems with my phone have been due the condition of the actual phone. (I drop phones alot) I had probs. with reception with Cingular a while back, but once I got a new (and better) phone-the problem disappeared completely. The only time I don't get a signal is in the same place that doesn't get one with ANY carrier- inside the airport and in that one area on the Veterans right near it.

I've been with Cingular for about 5 years now and they continue to get worse and worse... .and that catch phrase "fewer drop calls" is absolute baloney!... I had to walk out of the bar and into the middle of the parking lot to get one single bar to make a call and it kept dropping. I called customer service a few times and they admitted to bad service areas in the Tampa area and said I should consider buying one of their high end phones!

Always droping one side of the call, so the other persons shows they are still on, you just can't hear them. Always has a horrible static when on the phone. Also, sometimes people cant get through, says network is too busy. Changing asap. Would not recommend.

Horrible! The most I get with my Cingular service is 2 bars of reception if I stand ABSOLUTELY STILL near a window. Any where else in my small apartment I can get no reception. Once I got 10 dropped calls in 20 mins!

Cingular service is maybe even worse than the horrible AT&T Wireless service it acquired. Dropped call, poor reception, line noise, and often all calls are forwarded to voicemail. Would not recomend their service, products, or customer service (lack) to anyone I know. HORRIBLE! HORRIBLE! HORRIBLE. Stay away and save yourself TIME, GRIEF and MONEY by going to another service.

Using Cingular's TDMA service in this area is not that good. I could get a signal previously in my 3rd floor apt ( I would get the regular "Cingular" screen) but lately as of last week all I get is "Cingular Extend" kind of like roaming. Other than that sinal anywhere East of Westchase is very good. Hopefully if / when I upgrade to GSM there will be better service.

Only one GSM cell tower in this area. Cingular representative even said this area has poor signal strength. The only way you'll get full bars is if you have a signal repeater in your house, or stand next to the tower five miles down the road. The only good thing about Cingular is that they have great phones which can be used around the world. If you want Cingular I recommend buying a Quad-Band phone which will cover the full cellular frequency spectrum to maximize reception. Had a Razr which was Quad-Band and never lost a signal (even in the bathroom)! My Tri-Band SMT5600 just doesn't cut it...

Trying out a Cingular GSM after being on AT&T digital. While the service is somewhat better, it's still difficult for many people I call to hear me inside my home even though there is a tower close by. May switch to Verizon.

Horrible reception from Cingular... they use all sorts of excuses like they are merging their network with AT&T. Cingular is definately not "raising the bar" as far as this customer is concerned. Almost impossible to make / place calls in this area. Cingular is also horrible throughout Tampa Bay -- stay away from the bay bridges -- that's for sure. Friends of mine on AllTel and Verizon don't have the same problems.

Used to have AT+T TDMA. That service wasn't so bad and never dropped a call. Since merging to Cingular onto digital with a tri-band cellphone, nearly 2 in 3 calls drops. Also, as someone else mentioned, moving rooms dramatically affects reception. Someone has mentioned that things got worse since the hurricanes, but in my experience, it's got worse since SBC / Cingular took over AT+T. Trying to merge back to AT+T but they're not letting me. They suck.

Service was abysmal on base and especially bad in the BX and Commissary. Actually, the reception was between 1 and 0 and it was virtually impossible to connect or maintain a call for more than a few seconds. Had Alltel for years and the reception was terrific.

My family just migrated to Cingular Family Talk and the recpition with my Sony Ericsson T226 is great. No dropped calls except when you go into West Chase and the Alligator Ally on 75 (in those places you barely get any reception although you can still get some service).
