The AT&T signal drops off on River Rd.immediately north of the US 80 bypass interchange and doesn't pick up again til Mobley Rd.about two miles north. If you are in the residential areas of Brookstone, the Woodlands or Green Island Hills -- you will have a very hard time getting any kind of signal from AT&T here.
I've been with Alltel for a little while now and compared the service to all my friends and neighbors with other providers. Alltel really is as good as it gets around here. Just about all of Columbus is a full signal and even in between towers it usually just drops to 4 bars before it picks up again. I have no complaints anywhere I've been in area. The signal is full at the house where there are a number of neighbors around, signal is full at Wal-Mart and even inside it doesn't drop off that much. Also a perfect signal where I work just off Auburn Avenue. Alltel's a good provider here that the others just aren't quite up to matching in terms of coverage. There is nowhere I can't make a call. Just like I would say with any other provider, I wish plans were cheaper but comparably, Alltel seems to give more minutes than most and I love My Circle. Overall, I'm happy with the service.
Verizon has great reception everywhere I've been, even in the boondocks when nobody elses phone is working(I only use Nokia brand). I go all over tthe country and never have reception problems(usually 6 to 7 out of 7 bars). The downfall is that they are a little more expensive.
In any Wal-Mart in Columbus, you cannot get reception with T-Mobile. It is also poor in other stores, but for some reason there is no or very little reception inside Columbus Wal-Marts. However, you can step outside and it works fine. Other than that, I have absolutely no complaints with T-Mobile. I love them!
I have had different phones with PSC / soon to be Alltel and I hear others fine however they complain they can't always hear me. When I've been away from Columbus in Boston and Atlanta and Athens, phones will not ring for incoming calls. I get a "new voice message" text after they've called and then have to call my own number to check the message.
