Reception used to be good 2 years ago when we moved here to this address. However, it has degraded and is now very poor. It is 93 db which is considered to be weak. Calls drop a lot and service is very bad. Were it not for trees, I could see several towers; so, it does not get much worse. Tower tuning by Verizon was not successful. I could use my cell as my only phone, except signal and service at my home is terrrible. It has also been bad in other parts of South Georgia. AllTel would be my next choice. Not all AllTel stores were acquired by Verizon. If you were with a store that was acquired, you now have service with both, but if you were with Verizon or a store that was not, you do not yet have access to both systems. Doesn't make any sense to me, but that was what I was told. DSL with Windstream is not much better - not up to rated speed in this area.

You have hundreds and hundreds of people living in a major subdivision with little or no cell phone reception because you will not put a tower out here! Come on... get one out here!

I have been with Alltel for more than 4 years now and have had mixed opinions. Over 4 years the number of towers have increased, but there are still many areas where you can not get a good talkable digital signal. The major areas where there are no chance of talking is in between Douglas and Waycross on HWY 158 and anywhere in this are going south towards Axson or Millwood (HWY 64). The signal in Manor, GA is finally strong enought to make a call, but you best pull off the road if you want to keep your call from dropping. I have found that a lot of it has to do with what phone you have. There are good phones and there are very bad phones when it comes to how well they can hold or keep a signal so your call won't drop. It seems to me as the technology gets better the signal keeping ability of the phones are worse. I have had my V60 for over 2 years and am afraid to upgrade to a newer phone because I have tried numerous newer phones and I can not hold a signal in many places where my V60 can. Another good phone with signal strength is the Nokia $.99 special phone which usually holds a good signal in these areas. I am thinking of changing to Verizon based on the availability of better phones, because Alltel and Verizon share towers, therefore that would not be my reason to change. Alltel Customer Service has been excellent and I only have good thing to say about them. Hope this info is of some help. Others who add please write in as much detail as you can so others and you can learn more and make a better choice on phones and service providers. Thanks!
