Once you get out to scrubby bluff rd the reception goes up, but if you live further back in the neighborhoods most anywhere along scrubby bluff, reception is crap.
Verizon is great out here, I may not always have 5 bars but even 1 bar gets my call through. My wife has a IPhone on AT&T and you can not even call our house while sitting in it without dialing the area code first. I may never get rid of my Verizon plan just because of the better coverage.
My LG phone would not get more than 1 bar signal at ANY time in Kingsland. My wife's Nokia (both on VW) would go as high as 2, but dropped calls frequently. Called Verizon's Customer Service line and they even said that they would cancel our contract if my work relocated me to that area because they have NO SERVICE in Kingsland / St. Marys. I don't know what happened between 2005 and 2007, but VZW is POOR in that area!
Sprint has roaming agreements with all Alltel towers. Excellent service. Service in town in only spotty by Temple Creek in Browntown. Colesburg, Tarboro, Waverely all have service (even if Digitial Roaming). Dover Bluff, Sprint Bluff, Harriett's Bluff also have improved coverage over the past few weeks. Areas such as Clarks Bluff, Vacuna Road, and Hwy. 17 are excellent. Woodbine is also covered much better than previous months / years. Service all the way into Brantley County. 82 / 84 in Folkston / Waycross still has some spotty areas, but this isn't that bad since there is Digital Roaming with Alltel. Downtown St. Marys has improved greatly also.
This is horrible reception. No signal up to 4 miles from home in the car. switched from Verizon to Alltel to have walkie talkie for work having second thoughts.
I get little or no reception on my Sprint phone coming into most of Kingsland, Woodbine and St. Marys, GA. It's almost always in analog roam and voicemail / text alerts take days to arrive. If you live in south GA I would recommend Alltel (Sprint is great in Florida however!)
