I've had my Treo 680 for several years, so I can make some comparisons between the prior service on Cingular vs. current service on AT&T. I have to say that coverage for me in the Clayton County area has improved significantly since the transition to AT&T! I live, work, and spend most of my free time in ClayCo. I know-you're feeling sorry for me right now ;-\ but it's not THAT bad. When I had Cingular, I experienced several consistent locations around the county that were no-service / dropped call zones - including in front of my subdivision and some spots in my house. Since AT&T took over, those problems have not occured. I have occasional dropped calls but nothing to make me want to switch networks. The best change has been that I now get service at work - even farther back in the building where there are no windows. This was a NO-GO when we had Cingular. I don't use the browser that much, so I can't comment on the data aspects of the service.

In Atlanta: Great reception. Down I75S: drop calls left and right. I have in and out reception within my house. I would so much turn my head around and lost reception. If you want to make long distant calls, especially international calls, forget it. The reception is so bad, you might as well have better conversation via IM.
