Reception in the past week has degraded around Hickam AFB, especially inside buildings. Before I could get 3 bars and full 3G, now no bars and Edge (barely). What happened ATT?

Our location here in Hawaii is certainly far away, so shopping for wireless long distance is a dilemma. Before we arrived, we had been using Cingular and have been quite happy with them. However, when we call the continental states from here, we get connected but then usually lose connectivity shortly thereafter and are cut off. I must call the other party back several times within one conversation. There is a lot of static and blanking out and sometimes the call just won't connect at all. Then, we learned by a bad experience that our local calls are not well connected, either. Our 17 year old daughter was out with some new friends and decided to come home without them, not liking the activities with which they were engaging. On her way home she got lost and tried and tried to contact us with her cell phone. The phone on our end never showed a sign that we had missed any of her calls (normally it will flash a "missed calls" message) and it only rang one time, but when my husband answered, it didn't show that she was the caller and he was cut off before he could hear or say anything, not knowing who had made the call, so he couldn't return it. It was early in the evening, and because of the hour he didn't suspect it was our daughter, as she had not been gone long. She eventually made it home because she asked a policeman for help. We felt terrible that we didn't have good enough connectivity that she could reach us in a time of definite need. At one point, we contacted a Cingular agent and he kept asking us to repeat what we were saying because he couldn't hear us properly, due to the static and poor connectivity. Although they are a good company to work with, very polite, and have good customer services, we are planning to change our wireless to another company as soon as we can find one with better connectivity.
