AT&T
Have good reception, living next to utility poles.

Update on Kaumana Drive / Waianuenue, Carvaljo Park area: as in 2006, cell reception for T-Mobile is terrible. Also tried Sprint with even more dreadful results. Voice calls drop, data access is non-existent. Now using Verizon LTE Jetpack for net access, wifi calling - two bars out of five (but at least Verizon went to the trouble of putting a true 4G [LTE] network in Hilo! No other carrier has bothered.) Best choice (and I've now tried all major carriers) - AT&T. Local MobiPCS also has good signal strength, but BEWARE! They are LOCAL only! One is allowed only a limited time on Roam outside the Hawaiian Islands!

I have called AT&T and told them that alot of my fiends and I always get drop calls or network failures. They asked that these people call them so they know that I am not the only one who is getting dropped calls or network failures. That didn't help because AT&T is still insisting that everything is okay and can't understand why we are getting dropped calls or network failures. GO figa! AT&T's service is lousy.

Reception is very good, but expected as this is in a high commercial area. Switched over from Verizon, whose signal was very poor. In many situations, no call will come through, but phone would register a missed call.

Every call is eventually dropped, sometimes after a few seconds, sometimes after several minutes. Reception varies dramatically over time even while stationary, and is worse during rain. Sometimes sound is cut off for many seconds even while the call continues.

Reception is very good except for a black hole near the Rainbow Falls entrance area -- otherwise loud and clear reception with good transmission outgoing. T- Mobile is the best for Hilo and nearby areas.

Verizon has spent millions advertising, but have not spent any money on towers for Hawaii. Don't be fooled by the "can you hear me now?" because you can't. The coverage by Verizon in East Hawaii is minimal and I am going to try cingular.

I live 2 streets above 7-11 as you are going up Kaumana drive and the reception sucks. If I'm in the garage I get 2 bars, I walk upstairs to my kitchen I get 4 bars... that's without receiving a call. As soon as I get or make a call the reception drops down to 1 to 2 bars.

I have had T-Mobile for almost a year now I travel to all of the islands. At my house in Keaau. I cannot get any reception in the house but I can go outside and get 1-2 bars. Not to bad.

Pretty good reception, sometimes it will vary from 3-5 but steady 4. Inside cement building as well!
