Using a factory unlocked iPhone 4S running on T-Mobile. Usually 4-5 bars and no problems with voice calls from the Waipahu to Ala Moana area. Data is of course limited to EDGE which is ok for me since I only use email and limited web browsing.

T-Mobile pretty much sucks in any building. I worked down at the Haseko Bldg on Mililani Mall and I had to stand near a window to get a bar. That was my Blackberry Curve 8320. Then I got a job at 841 Bishop St.and my phone wouldn't work in that building either. So I got a Nexus One when my contract was up and stayed with T-Mobile. Shouldn't have. T-Mobile has such a crappy reception in a building. I ask people who talk on their phones in my elevators who their carrier is and they all say AT&T. So I'm switching as soon as I feel comfortable enough to pay the penalty to get out of my T-Mobile AND Google plans.

I have no reception at all inside Sheraton while my friends who use AT&T have 4 or 5 bars. I often miss call around Honolulu. I only get a miss call message after the call has been missed. It sucks. Unfortunately, I just committed to a 2-year agreement because I wanted a new phone. If there is no serious improvement in the next 2 years, I am switching to AT&T.

Reception is spotty on Prospect travelling all around Punchbowl Crater. It is especially bad when travelling along Prospect from Ward down to Piikoi calls get dropped about 50% of the time. Reception is poor from my home in the 200 block of Prospect, where I have to walk around the house in order to find a place to stand where people can hear me.

I have had Verizon Wireless for 5 years. They are FANTASTIC. Great, customer service, and GREAT coverage too. I take that back. Not just GREAT coverage but AWESOME coverage. No exaggeration... I am able to get coverage in various parking garages around downtown Honolulu - Melim Tower, Harbor Court - in their elevators too! - and I even get coverage in their fire exits too. Overall, I've been very happy with Verizon (equpiment, coverage, etc.) for the entire 5 years I've been with them.

Reception is strong and relatively noise-free when there’s coverage. Problem is, coverage is iffy even in areas where it should be best, like Downtown Honolulu. To make matters worse, once I’m out of commission, it takes unusually long for my phone to re-establish a signal and even longer to receive notification of missed calls or messages.

Hey Jim Clement, it might be your phone. I have an iPhone and my bars are always full with Tmobile. It is TRUE about T-Mobile and it's towers. T-Mobile used to have agreements with AT&T to use their towers in many areas. Well that agreement vanished a while ago which is why where you used to get awesome reception with T-Mobile, now it sucks. I am considering switching to AT&T, but then again I've been with T-Mobile since voicestream and I'm just hoping they do something about adding more towers. It's getting ridiculous. One thing about AT&T in Hawaii (ALL ISLANDS) is that they always get dropped calls, super annoying. It shows full bars, but it is often misleading because often my AT&T friends can't even make an outgoing call! You also have to consider the fact that with more AT&T users, their towers can get jammed at times, which explains the dropped calls. T-Mobile will eventually get there if they don't keep up with adding more pipes for the water to flow, for a better word. AT&T's 3G is light years faster than T-Mobiles without a doubt. T-Mobiles 3G is a joke. Seriously. One thing I do know for sure is that I'm leaving T-Mobile if they don't step their game up fast. My reception is good, but I'm sure it's due to the fact that a tower is just 3 blocks from my house and I'm in a high rise... I want only the fastest, most reliable GSM network. I don't like CDMA's... sorry Verizon and Sprint... .sucks...

For the last two weeks, I have consistently experienced poor reception within a two block radii of this Location. Unfortunately, this is the hub of the downtown Honolulu business district. Dropped calls are not only an inconvenience, they are unacceptable with the rates we as subscribers are being charged. I have been a T-Mobile customer since they were Voicestream. Never experienced any trouble with them until this year. I am given to understand that they have lost several repeater sites on Oahu. But would the company disclose that to its customers? No, they would not Jim Clement

Slow data speed most of the time, and some times drop call, it's getting worst everyday. They keep selling smartphones and most phones nowadays has data connection but their network is clogged up, they need to upgrade their tower, if you're in Waikiki area, your data speed is even slower than dial up service. Stay away from ATT is you use your data in this area.
