I have a really, really old Motorola Razor phone. It's definitely time to update, but I'm not sure what phone is going to work over here on a local network. Here's what's odd. On the old Razor, I have had great reception on the big island, during normal driving around the various cities. (Never tried it out on the ocean, or from Mauna Kea, for ex.) But it's on an 831 (Santa Cruz) area code. I'm wondering if I change to a local area code, if that reception will change? It would be really weird to get great reception on an 831 area code and then swap and get little or no reception on a local code! Suggestions for a new phone upgrade? Mahalo!

I get an average of 1-2 bars at home and at the airport. I asked AT&T why so poor reception and was told it was because they switched and their 3G customers get good reception the rest on their Edge network are S.O.L. Switching to another carrier when my contract is up.

It is practically impossible to get any reception in our house. We have to either keep the phone is one specific spot or go outside to get any reception.

Over the past year AT&T / Cingular service has improved dramatically. I am now able to hold conversation without dropping from Waimea to Kona. My in building coverage is also better now that GSM 850 ha been fully launched.
