I have never had any problems with T-Mobile. I'm the only one in my group who can get reception on Molokai with no problems. My friends have AT&T and they are always complaining about dropped calls. I can even get reception in the H3 Tunnel!

I love T-mobile, have been with them forever. Unfortunately the reception is very poor in the steel framed houses at the top of Mililani Mauka (signal strength ranges from none to one if I go to the second floor). The reason why I'm leaving T-Mobile as soon as my contract is up is because my kids are walking home alone and the signal drops to nil near their schools. Debating between AT&T and Verizon.

My sister has T-Mobile and for her to call out from walmart she has to borrow my Cingular cell phone. Cingular is the only one to have perfect reception throughout the store. Having the ability to call and make contact with your spouse when shopping is a big help. Places where Cingular don't have reception, other carriers are the same. Cingular has more places of good reception in hawaii than any other carrier.

AT&T reception is bad. I can be sitting in the same place during a conversation, which starts off fine... strong, clear reception, then a few minutes later I can't make out what the person on the other end is saying. Then boom... disconnected. Once in a while I could let slide, but it occurs all too frequently.

I have found Nextel's coverage footprint to be rather excellent. If it has any weakpoint, it is that their service can be interrupted by simply putting the phones in your pocket. Also its penetration power is suspect as in many buildings (intermediate range from the towers) it lacks connectivity or consistent connectivity. Perfect example, Sams Club, Pearl City. If your not careful, you can lose connection in there, esp deep in the store. I do believe they have finally killed the dead spot in Nanakuli, though coverage off Farrington Highway rapidly deteriorates. Nextel has done a great job of covering most of the "main thoroughfares, with only the North Shore(northeast) being the lost cause for all cell services and the satellites. My Nextel loses connection right by the Kahuku Motorcross Track and quickly gets it back. I have used Nextel for my business for many years and I am very familiar with its shortcomings. I could draw on a map every single dead spot on this island. Our business was one of the first adoptees of iDEN service in the state so we are familiar with the growing pains of the service.

I am a communications manager for a medical company. While working for the company in search of new, rugged solutions for my company, I have made the following observations about AT&T GSM Coverage: Most anywhere on the island is decent coverage, especially lately. However the GSM network has some notable weak points. I am aware that Mililani area is a serious dead spot. Parts of Mililani have magnificent coverage, esp near the walmart AT&T kiosk. However anywhere near the "old" section of Mililani and in the gulch between Mililani and Wahiawa is extremely suspect. By Safeway, it's barely 1 bar of coverage and indoors in that area, coverage is nonexistent. It is my understanding that recently (this summer) that they have done some work on it so take advantage of their 30 day buyers remorse if the darn thing doesnt fit your needs. In town, I had no problems. Ewa Plain, No problems. H1 / H2 merge, always lose connection. Aiea, Pearl City, no problems with some weak, but useable signals in the Palisades area. North Shore, in and out (T-Mobile and Nextel have much better coverage out there) Castle Junction (weak). Waimanalo, good, if not spectacular coverage in most areas (probably due to relatively flat topography). AT&T is completely useless out near Dillingham Field. If you have need to have phone service out there, my suggestion is to use Nextel. I have gotten 5 bars on my phone all the way out to the end of the road.
