I am still in a 30 day trial period with Qwest on my service. Some days I cannot call out or receive phone calls. Several areas in Bettendorf I have dropped calls. I am wondering if the phone makes a difference as to being able to pull in the signal.

99.9% of the time it works great, you really have to go off the beaten path to hit dead spots. 15-20 miles off the interstate in rural Iowa and its without signal.

New tower going up btwn Middle Rd and Devil's Glen Rd on Hopewell Ave. Is this operational yet? What carrier(s) will get to use this tower? I have had Verizon for about 4 years and travel all over IA and central IL. Verizon keeps getting better coverage for me. I finally get two bars in my home office, routinely. I have noticed that *228 once a month will help add new towers to the programming of my phone.

I've had Sprint for the last 4 years, The signal reception at my house is non-existant. It works best when am outside on my roof, I get 2 bars then. There's spotty reception in Davenport, most of the time I get between 2 and 3 bars. Even in Chicago when I go there I get spotty reception and a week signal. I travel with a lot of diffrent people between Omaha and Chicago ant it appears that the best reception is with Cingular (typically 4 and 5 bars) and Verizon is next with 3 and 4 bars. Most of the other carriers run between 2 and 3 bars. Over the past 4 years Cingular has definitely risen to the top of the heap with their "more bars in more places" campaign. Of course this was not a scientific study, there were many diffrent phones in many diffrent vehicles in a whole bunch of diffrent places, getting the information was just a curiosity thing that I decided to keep track of in my vehicle log book. Most of the people I rode with thought I was a little off-center for keeping track, but they're the ones asking ME "which carrier I should go with?".

I got terrible reception with my previous GSM carrier in the area. Since my switch to Verizon 3 years ago I haven't dropped a single call and have no reception issues. There's no way I'd switch.

no problems whatsoever in the QC area. no dropped calls and great reception in my apartment, which was hard to come by with other carriers. rural iowa is a different story, however.
