Nextel

Nextel is the best provider in the Treasure Valley in my opinion. They do cost a little more on a monthly basis, but it is worth it. I've used Verizon (worst I have ever used) and AT&T (both TDMA and GSM, before Cingular merger) and Nextel just takes the cake.

I rarely get coverage at my house and have often had to have embarrassing personal conversations (e.g. doctor's office) in the front yard. Would not use Sprint again.

Have had service with Qwest for 18 months without issue. Recently every other call is dropped. Sometimes just sitting on the couch it will beep in and out of service for sometimes 1-2 minutes. Signal strength fluctuates really bad. According to Qwest this is likely due to capacity issues with the growth in this area. No plans to upgrade the area according to Qwest. However customer service has been great and they are willing to let me out of my contract and refund the price of the phone.

I have been with Cingular since they merged with AT&T early this year. I was with AT&T since 06 / 1999 and was more than happy with their digital service. Since Cingular took over, and I switched to a GSM phone, the service has been unusable in my area. Making a call indoors is out of the question. My service went from strong virtually all the time to weak and unreliable. I asked to switch back to digital and was told I could not, even though it was superior in my area. Cingular's customer service has been spotty. I received a free month of service last month due to nearly 25% of my calls being dropped and dealt with entirely professional employees. This month, I was flatly told that: "We don't guarantee you will be able to receive calls." I'd rather have a phone service that works than all the free unusable phone calls they could give me. At this point the only thing that will make me happy is to be out of my contract. I don't care if I do have to pay a penalty. I recently switched to Sprint because I needed a phone that works. I have a Nextel phone for work, and it works excellent all the time. Cingular personnel told me that Boise is a "low-to-medium-coverage" area. Frankly, if you need a phone to actually make and receive calls, DO NOT try Cingular in the Boise area. You will not be happy, and will get no sympathy from Cingular customer service.
