Everyone must remember the following... 1) Transmission Technology exists in only two forms CDMA (used by Verizon / Sprint), GSM (used by all others). CDMA is a more reliable technology. 2) Brand of phone makes a big difference (switching brands while staying with the same carrier can be significant) My Treo with Verizon works perfectly everywhere.

Constantly dropped calls by the lake and in high-rise buildings in the area. Verizon insists coverage is strong in the area but I strongly disagree from first-hand experience!

I have used, on average, about 10 minutes each month. It's because I usually can't make a single call without walking about 6 blocks. I can now type text messages very quickly though, but it takes about 30 sends before one goes through. I've also gotten voice mails 7 hours after they were left, and one time I dropped my phone on the floor and all of a sudden three voice mails popped up.

1 or 2 bars... and it changes based on if I am in the front or back of my house... very poor. Calls drop if I move to the back of my house.

Sometimes I'll receive missed calls / messages hours after the call was placed or the message was sent. This just started happening semi recently. Not sure if it has something to do with AT&T buying out Cingular. I have no problems placing calls and my reception is pretty solid. I work on the 26th floor of a building on Michigan and Illinois. If i'm lucky phone calls will get through, but chances of hearing the person on the other end is slim to none. Calling out can take several attempts, but if I do get through reception is awful.

I AM GLAD THAT THE RECEPTION for cells phones is POOR on the south side! That is a GOOD THING! I don't want tumors, brain cancer or any of the other documented calamaties that are sure to befall our society given the preponderance of evil CELL TOWERS. CELL TOWERS ARE SHOWN TO CAUSE CANCER!

You don't realize what you have until it's gone. I switched from Sprint to T-Mobile because I wanted a Blackberry Pearl. Now my calls sound terrible and drop ALL the time. I never thought anything great about Sprint's service... it just worked like I expected it to do. I didn't realize how lucky I was until I switched to a service that DOESN'T "just work."

I switched from Sprint to T-Mobile because I wanted a Blackberry Pearl. I love the device, but the service is terrible. I cannot make calls from my first floor apartment that last more than 5 minutes, I have to go to the roof. Even then I sound garbled and drop calls every 10 - 15 minutes. People tell me that I never sound CLEAR, but when I am on the roof they can at least make out what I am saying.

Perfect reception anywhere on DePaul University's campus. If you go in any building, still all bars. Any other provider does not work though. Sorry, you're out of luck without Cingular / AT&T.

I just moved from Houston, where Verizon was fantastic. Now, EVERY call is dropped. I am not exaggerating. This is so incredibly annoying since I depend on cell phone for all correspondences with work and friends. There is usually 1 small bar to no bars. Don't bother trying it on the train, you'll get nothing. It has sporadic moments where you will have a 20 min conversation, but wait, no-- it will drop the call the moment you start to trust it. It is completely worthless inside buildings. The power suddenly drops and it turns off. But if you turn it on a minute later it is OK. Weird. Customer service told me to get it serviced. I did. Nothing has changed. I just took a trip back to Houston with it over the weekend, and it worked perfectly. Therefore, I believe that Verizon is full of itself and that they don't have enough coverage for Chicago--they of course blame you or pretend that you have to spend hours at the shop with them or on the phone. Don't bother. Save time and money and just cancel it ASAP. It is worth your money not to feel constantly frustrated.
