I'm on Loyola University's Lake Shore campus and Cingular has extremly poor reception. What's worse is that theirs is the nearest antena tower. Go figure!

I've had a Cingular phone for two years. I use the phone regularly, mostly in Hydepark in Chicago. I can count on one hand the number of dropped calls I've had.

I never think about my phone's reception, which is probably the best compliment I could pay T-Mobile. Travel often throughout North and West sides and Loop.

Moved from Belmont and Clark (w / GREAT reception on T-Mobile and crappy reception on Cingular / ATT) to here. I am now right spanking next to the El, and on 1st floor of a frame 3-story. I initially got 4 bars then 1 bar within the same 2 minute period and many dropped calls. Within the past month, things have gotten better; I wonder if they tweaked it? well it isn't bad enough for me to cancel yet. BTW, visitors report Cingular and Verizon are great; 3+ bars here for them.

If I can get reception in my house it is weak at best. I have to call people and ask them to call me back on my house phone from their cell phones. In good weather I go out on my back porch but the signal goes in and out even there. My phone is part of a work related package so I can't even switch companies at the end of the contract.

Hardly any reception indoors. Not much better outdoors. Very disappointed in that Verizon has a store at the local shopping mall in linconlnwood and doesn't even support the surrounding area with coverage.

Pretty bad reception. Bearable sometimes, but frustrating. Poor indoor reception both where I work and where I live. I am no mobile tech expert, but my apt building is an old building with thick concrete walls (as most buildings in the neighborhood) but where I work is open with lots of glass. I don't know how much difference that's supposed to make. At work it seems to work slightly better--line noise is semi-frequent but dropped calls aren't as bad, at home it almost doesn't work at all (in fact it gets no signal in the basement or in the elevator--not a big deal in and of itself; just saying the building penetration seems pretty poor.) Either way, I get a lot of signal noise, signals cutting in and out, and dropped calls are frequent. I do not use my phone much anymore out of frustration. The phone model admittedly is old, but understandably I'm not too keen on trying a new phone with T-Mobile and recommitting if it yields the same results. I am now researching a better carrier. I have been with T-Mobile 2 years and didn't have any major complaints until I moved to Chicago. It seemed to work very well in Detroit and throughout mid-Michigan. How generous they are with their minutes doesn't matter much if you can't talk.

Unable to use phone in my house. I was told by Verizon that a cell phone is not for home use. Also Verizon stated problem is due to no tower. However my two sisters have Verizon in the South Bend, In area have no problems using their cell phone in my home. Verizon has poor customer service and told me the only remedy would be to renew a 2 year contract. How that will help with reception in my home was not answered.

Inside my condo I get no reception. I live right across from the EL too. I'm sure that has something to do with it, however, whenever I'm on the train, reception is great! Go figure. Anyone else have trouble??

Calls drop often. Service has been getting worse. Cingular said they're upgrading their network and it will be better in 3 months or so. I have friends with Verizon that have problems too. One friend with T-Mobile doesn't seem to have many problems with service.

Coverage varies from adequate to poor depending upon where I stand inside my apartment. Unless I tilt the phone at a certain angle when sitting at my desk, I get 0 to 1 bars and always lose calls.

Live on 30th floor facing the Sears Tower. Get decent reception near my windows (my building is solid concrete) but nothing in hall or elevators. Sometimes bars go from 5 to 1 with no reason - I've seen that is a recurring problem with a lot of people. Communications guy in my office tells me the Sears Tower interferes with cable TV and cell phone reception in the area - something about bursts coming from their HUGE antenna. That seems to make sense to me. But I get really weak reception on the EL and that has nothing to do with it so I think Verizon needs some more repeaters in the area.

Lake Shore / Addison, Chicago, IL 60613 Tue Oct 03, 2006

I second all of the above about Verizon. I live on a high floor of a Lake Shore high-rise and get dropped calls almost every time I try to use my cell in my apartment, even if I'm right by the window. Bars will go from 5 to 1 or none with no rhyme or reason.

Cingular does not work in basements here. Verizon and Sprint have one bar in the basement, good enough for a call.
