I'm in the business loop of Chicago at Michigan Ave. and Wacker... crossing the Chicago River bring. The Wrigley Building, the Tribune Tower and the new Trump Tower and I have EDGE with 3 bars! Where's the 3G in Chicago! This is a major area of the city and AT&T can't provide 3G service. :- /
I have practically zero coverage in my ground floor condo. I have to go to a specific window to get just one bar. I get voicemails and texts late. I got rid of my landline when I got my iPhone and I'm miserable. No AT&T ever again.
The strip of Sheridan from Hollywood Ave. to Granville is virtually useless and from Thorndale to Granville there is NO service. Even standing outside you can't get a signal. How can any part of Chicago be without service. AT&T is the worst. AVOID AT&T. Don't fall into the iPhone trap like I did.
Horrible reception all over the Chicago! Thought it was possibly the phone (Samsung Blackjack II SGH-i617 Windows Mobile 6), but after reading everyone else's comments, clearly it's the AT&T! T-Mobile is far superior to AT&T. Complete mistake to change from T-Mobile to AT&T!
Apple's iPhone 3G and 3Gs are rendered useless on AT&T's craptastic network! I'm on Michigan Ave (The Magnificent Mile) shopping district and my iPhone switches between 3G and EDGE, generally it's on EDGE. Come on Apple, drop AT&T's exclusive contract already!
A friend just told me he unlocked his iPhone for 30 bucks and switched to T-Mobile. His coverage improved 100% on T-Mobile here in Chicago. He reports the dropped calls, lose of signal and other AT&T issues are all gone by simply switching to T-Mobile. Plus it's CHEAPER! I can't wait until Apple drops AT&T.
Sprint's service just keeps improving! I laugh at all the poor folks stuck with iPhones on AT&T. I'm sure people can't wait until the iPhone comes to Verizon. Sprint service in Chicago is probably the best of any carrier. All my friends on AT&T complain constantly.
