Horrible! Dropped calls all the time, especially in my apartment. I need to sit next to the window to get reception. Every time a new update on the software, it works worse. When the Iphone 4 and software came out, it suddenly worked horribly. I do not recommend AT&T if you live in Chicago.

I am constantly dropping calls in my apt, even when I am next to the window. My husbands Blackberry Curve has the same issues, so it's not just my cheap little phone... it is At&t. I don't need a fancy phone or internet access... I just want to make a phone call using the service I pay for. Everyone on here needs to go to the FCC website and file form 2000B - complaint about wireless service. Maybe if the FCC has enough complaints they will force AT&T to provide the service they promise.

Terrible. Constantly at one or no bars, no network messages, dropped calls. I love my phone but I hate AT&T.

I don't know if it's the building or what. It's all glass so you'd think you'd get better reception. I can make and receives calls, but the reception is very choppy and in-and-out. my data connection on the iPhone 3GS is either Edge or the small circle, whatever that means; never 3G. And the fastest that my AT&T laptop connect device can achieve is 3.6 Mbps, and that's only occasionally. it's usually 237 kbps! useless really. I can only hope that buying up T-Mobile helps with service

I always have reception, however, it's back and forth between 3G and 1xrt. Most of the time it's slow 1xrt, but when on 3G I get full bars. This is my only gripe. Otherwise, calls are always crystal clear and I don't ever get any dropped calls.

AT&T is the worst mobile service in Chicago. The quality of service has degraded over the past few months. I can't make a call in The Loop without the call dropping. Data often stalls out and never connects. A rep claims AT&T upgrading their towers from 2G to 3G. Really? Verizon and Sprint are already 4G in the market!

I live in the University Center. - Reception drops in and out - Only have 0-2 bars, roaming or no reception at all in hallways - Calls randomly drop when walking down State St. - Data works when it feels like it -Roommates have T-Mobile and always have 3-5 bars, and 4G is making me jealous!

Verizon sucks! Barely get reception outside, and can totally forget about reception inside. The minute I hit the door of my building my phone becomes a pretty piece of pink plastic that does nothing but play music. No voice calls, texts and I can forget about web surfing. If you live in the South loop, do yourself a favor and stay away from Verizon. Trying T-Mobile, and so far I love it. Absolutely great reception. Major plus your still in contract with another company, they will give you give you a discount, equal to your termination fee, so that you can switch without losing any money. No Verizon + no termiantion fee+ great company= win win!

Coverage is horrible in Roscoe Village. 1 bar indoors. 2 bars max up and down Roscoe Street. Makes me want to throw my phone in a sewer drain and then throw up on it.

Since I moved here my reception is AWFUL! Every call either drops or is a bad connection! I've been fighting with Verizon about it and they refuse to let me out of my contract even though they originally said they would if they proved it was their service! They have admitted this is a bad area but they now say "we don't guarantee our phones to work indoors. We only guarantee outside coverage." They wanted me to buy a booster for the signal and with the discount it was $160! I'm not paying that! I'm just going to change companies as soon as my contract is up and I'll never use them again!

Appalling service and getting worse. Numerous calls to customer service. They report no issues; clearly people on this site report otherwise. Will be switching to T-Mobile.

I switched from AT&T to Sprint (see my comment from 18 November 2010 for why) and I couldn't be happier. At work (The Loop) I get amazing coverage. At home I get amazing coverage. The only place in the entire city I have ever had an issue is the subway stations underground. At that point I just put on some music and wait until I see the surface to use the mobile web, send a message / e-mail or make a call. I am almost at 2 months and I have yet to have a single dropped call.

Funny, this phone (EPIC) was supposed to be so superior. I only changed carriers form US Cellular to Sprint because my company offeres a corp. discount, and I'm sad I did. There is NO service on the train underground unlike AT&T and US Cellular, and despite the fact my office building is LITERALLY across the street from Sprint's Corp Headquarters in Rosemont, I rarely get reception at work! The worle 4G this is kind of a sham, too... when I am connected and I randomly loose connectivity, I have to completely shut off my phone and re-start it in order to restore connectivity to 3G network! Can't have more than one text message sending out at a time or it will bump all but the first from sending, and you can't see the screen in the sunlight. What's the point of having a big screen to use internet if you can never connect and if you like being able to text with one hand a'la blackberry-forget it. The only redeeming qualities to the Epic are the camera (which you must use two hands to operate) and the apps which I can rarely use because I never get a signal. The battery life is THE WORST! I even using Adv Task Killer, I have to re-charge the phone AT LEAST 3 times DAILY. DON"T waste your $400, people.

I have used u.s cellular and T-Mobile for years I cannot vouch for other carriers. As far as dropped calls T-Mobile at this time is very poor and reception cuts in and out constantly.I live in metro chicago and calls always drop. I love T-Mobile and there plans. I also have never had better customer service and they always look above and beyond to help me. 6 years they also let me cancel out of a contract and pay $35 a line disconnect fee to get out of contract instead of $175-300 for what other carriers charge.By far T-Mobile has best customer service..or thats what jd power and associates said after all having been awarded this three years in a row. So no problem with customer service. My problem is reception and I have heard they will no longer be adding towers to improve.Plain and simple..bad reception service and drop calls happen every day... quite frankly yah us cellular had fewer drop calls for me..it was more expensive however and there customer service is poor in all aspects. what I will say is overseas T-Mobile is king and I have never had reception problems. So I would like better service fewer drop calls but seriously every carrier has there problems and for the most part I will stick with T-Mobile for know because they no how to take care of there customers. They have given me 2 new phones over the years..and I have a old plan from 5 years ago... unlimited family plan 3 lines and my bill is $97.00 never more then $100..so I am happy..pros..they take care of you great plans, cons... drop calls and reception..so yah us cellular cannot compare with plans and service..

Moved to Chicago in August and started having problems then with call quality, dropping calls and huge delay (~8 hours) in text messages. The only place around me I could make or receive calls was in the middle of a city park. Work was even worse (The Loop). Kept getting told that the problem is that my phone isn't good enough so went from the Neon to the Flight then to the Bold. Same problem no matter what. Then it "had" to be the SIM card. After replacing that twice, AT&T sent the engineers out for what they call a "ticket". Came back and said that I should have excellent coverage. Then set up a "special ticket" that absolutely had to have a resolution. The result was that I got a refund for the last two months of my service and was allowed to opt out of my 5 line family plan at no charge.

Att coverage has fallen off the charts. I used to be able to make / receive calls in my apartment. Now I have to have my face up to the window glass. It's ridiculous! I'm going to move to sprint!
