I get 1-2 bars of reception upstairs in my home, but nothing in the basement. Being a walk-out basement I occasionally get 1 bar that appears and vanishes quickly. With a Community College just down the road a few miles (3-5) one would expect coverage to be better.

I live on the lake and calls from others almost never come through; they go straight to voice mail. When I am on the phone I get dropped calls often.

I have been a loyal customer of AT&T. But my service has gotten worse by the months. I got a new phone and the service still sucks! They keep saying that the towers are Great and they are switching over to 3G. So when is this change happening. Im seriously thinkin of cancellin and paying the cancelling fees.

Was previously a Cingular customer and switched to Verizon 3 years ago. Have had good, clear reception on I-74, 72, 57 and 55, but hit 2 dead spots on 55 South, towards St. Louis, but that is about it.

My company (HQ in Chicago) has a package with T-Mobil. I live in Decatur and travel the Central and Southern parts of the state. There are multiple deadspots the further south of Decatur you go. I do not recommend this service at all. When I travel to Chicago, I typically have no reception problems.

I submitted the post on Jul 20, 2005. Now I receive great reception and no droped calls. I even pick up 4-5 bars in my basement where I used to get only 0-1 bars. The only thing that changed is that I got a Nokia 3120b. (Cingular told me that the Motorola V-180 phone had some issues that Motorola was trying to resolve.) Also, all of the billing issues were resolved and I haven't had any other billing or account problems since. So for the past year and a half Cingular has been very good.

The plan isn't the best but I haven't had any dropped calls, ever. I travel to Florida and Colorado with no problems with connection or clarity.

I am on the fringe of good reception here. As soon as I get closer to the Interstate (72) about 2 miles north, it improves to 5 bars.

Sands and Boiling Springs Rd., Decatur, IL 62526 Sun Jul 23, 2006

Combination of Cingular and Motorola V551 equals very poor to no reception in many locations. Dropped calls are very common. Our Samsung is no better. Cingular is of no help and is actualy very independant when questioned as to the reason for such poor service. Wired phones will be around for a while unless Cell phone service improves. Various antenna additions cause only the slightest improvement.

Initial reception was almost zero. I installed a short telescoping aerial and I now get one bar in the house and two bars outside. I reprogram the phone every month hoping to improve reception. We still drop about every 5th call.

Calls are choppy and we get an average of 2-3 bars out of five in our home. We are only four blocks from Cingular's tower and considered in the "medium to high" reception range. Dropped calls, too, about twice a week. Now we are stuck in this contract for awful service. They have been no help and say a higher grade phone would likely not help either, and even if it did help, we'd have to pay FULL cost for the phone (not the 1 year or 2 year service agreement price) since we've had service with them for about 45 days. Oh, and we still haven't gotten our first BILL! We've called and called and still nothing--except I'm sure they're charging us the extra "late" charge. Bottom line, CINGULAR IS NOT GOOD.
