The coverage is fairly good in downtown Chicago but it is very spotty in the northern suburbs

Horrible! I'm frequently in the middle of a call and it just drops. Heaven forbid I'll need to call 911 some day. I probably won't have service at the time I need it. Lots of excuses from ATT and pseudo fixes. The fact is the service stinks.

Mostly excellent reception and data service, with occasional glitches. Very costly service, but much better than most of these other people get, based on their reviews! Was thinking of switching to save $, but maybe not…

In the last year I have noticed many more dropped calls and places where I'll have no bars or sometimes no service. Husband, son and I frequently don't receive each other's text messages. 3G drops to Edge frequently. But I notice that reviewers of all providers seem to be saying the same thing.

I am so glad I found this website. Was about to switch to Sprint tomorrow from US Cellular. Now I will wait. I am really stressing about the change as it seems USC was the only company that people were actually happy with. I am one of those happy customers. I would have bought the damn company had I known they were selling out. Sprint says they are getting the towers from USC so I was thinking that this would be the best option. Now I am not so sure. My guess is that all the carriers cannot keep up with the huge number of smart phones hitting the US. They were caught with their towers down and now customers are paying. I don't know how USC remained so good for so long but now that is is "So Long USC', It sucks to think about and can only hope that Sprint does what they promise they will do. Improve greatly with the USC purchase.

Constant dropped calls and missed calls. Haven't had full bars ever since moving to Evanston a few weeks ago. Works fine in Chicago. In Evanston, I'm surprised when I occasionally get 3 bars for a few seconds. Planning to switch, but it looks like all the major companies have bad coverage in Evanston.

Cannot use the internet or get e-mails on my phone at home. Sending messages is very slow and often they do not go thru. If this continues I will switch carrier.

Our AT&T service in north Evanston is very poor, often have to restart my phone to send a text message after it fails to send the first time. The only place to get service on my property is to walk out onto the back porch. We complained several times to AT&T and they tried to sell us a $100 booster that would supposedly make the signal stronger. What a joke. Why should I have to buy something to make it possible to use the services I already pay for?

AT&T coverage in Evanston is terrible, has been for a long time. I formerly lived in the Albany Park neighborhood of Chicago and could talk freely on my cell phone (was then using a Go Phone) throughout my apartment. Here in Evanston (with the Go Phone and now the iPhone 4) I can usually get the call and talk for about 60 seconds, then the other person can no longer hear me and the only way to continue the conversation is to call back on a land line. At this site I've just seen where the towers are, they're west and northwest of me, which explains why my best luck holding onto a call is on my back porch on the west end of the apartment, as long as I continue walking in a circle and don't ever stand still for long (!). In cold weather that doesn't work very well. AT&T's own map says we've got best coverage in this area, ha ha, best in comparison with the middle of the Pacific Ocean perhaps. It's very shocking to me that coverage is so bad in a good-sized city (100,000) with a prestigious university nearby (Northwestern).
