Get no to intermittent reception, chronic dropped calls. No reception in our second-floor condo, no reception from Ryan Field to Linden "El," dropped calls on Central St. Completely unreliable. Called tech support and were told that we should be getting service. Called a second time and were told that one of their towers is down (as of May) and that it will be repaired in December. We were told we could purchase a signal booster and pay a monthly fee to maintain it. Why can't we get that for free? "We cannot offer complimentary signal boosters because they are in such high demand from our customers." Despite the competitive pricing, I would rather pay more for service that works than the amount that we pay Sprint for a smartphone that is useless for anything but texting.

Outdoors I mostly get 5 bars. Indoors, however, differs greatly. Mostly get at least one bar. Had no dropped calls. However, 3G speed fluctuates. I'm happy with AT&T.

Reception in Northwestern's Pancoe building is very bad. Occasionally by the window I can get signal long enough to be alerted of a voicemail / textmessage. Outside of the building it picks up signal, but dropped calls are very common.

AT&T has NO SIGNAL, 2000 new students, their parents and friends can't get cellphone signals from AT&T. They will switch to other carrier if signal is NOT improved around the Northwestern University.

I use my iPhone as my home phone and in the past it was good to perfect. Phone reception has been steadily declining and in the past week I often have no reception in my apartment except in the kitchen where there is only one bar. It never used to be like this. I am thinking of ditching this phone because it's so unreliable. No point having an iPhone if the stinking thing doesn't work.

Reception is inconsistent, running from 5 bars down to 0. At least once per hour I can watch my phone drop from 5 bars to zero, stay there for 5-10 seconds, then come back, all while I'm standing in my living room. Needless to say I get a lot of dropped calls.

Service is fairly good outside, both on and off NU campus, although, have occasionally had trouble with busy cells at times when making calls out. Inside most NU buildings there is no service, though sometimes service is available if you are on floor 3 or above. At Engelhart, service is decent inside, usaully works in my apt, but occasionally goes down to 1 bar or no service and might drop a call. Despite some service problems, Cingular seems to be the best in the area, have heard horror stories about Sprint and Verizon service, and have never seen T-Mobile reception better than mine; its usually equal or not as good, and inside buildings, more often worse or non-existant. I'm sticking with Cingular for now, as the service is the best I've seen in Evanston and it has the best plan for me as well.

Coverage is just fine except at NU or close to the lake - then you're down to about 1 bar. Forget getting any signal in campus buildings, but most other buildings are ok. Good signal most of north shore, except a barren spot on Golf road near Chick Evans golf course.

I don't believe I've ever seen a single bar while inside my apartment. Most incoming calls fail to generate a ring. More than half the calls I make from inside are lost after three or four minutes. Reception on the street is better, but still very poor: one bar at most.

Reception inside buildings is almost non existant. Even when phone rings (2 bars) it drops the call once I open the phone to answer. I have tried four different V400 phones inside my office and have the same problem. Others in the office have switched to Nokia phones and get great reception sitting right next to me. Phone gets little or no reception inside most all buildings I have been in across the Chicagloand area. Outdoor reception is fair to poor.

Reception is extremely poor inspite of being a block or two from the water tower with all the cellular antennas. My guess is that the antennas focus their signals in a manner that it excludes the area immediately around the base for several blocks. I can drive 2 blocks north and get a good signal.

Verizon has interesting coverage. There are few open areas I go where I am unable to get coverage. However, coverage will disappear randomly. Inside public building I rarely get coverage, but houses are usually alright. I've placed many calls to customer service, and they've almost always been very helpful. If you break your phone though, you'll be stuck paying for service you cannot until you buy another one as they refuse to give you a loaner.
