Just in case anyone from the South is reading this, thinking of moving to Chicago. They don't have Alltel here. You can roam, but reception sucks! I guess a lot of us make the blanket assumption these companies are nationwide.

I'm so tired of bad reception in Oak park... .I no longer live there but I work there 12 hours a day sometimes and need to be in communication with coworkers and my family. I have a horrible time with reception and data. I just watch my phone do nothing a lot of the time when trying to access anything data oriented on my iphone. Please put up more towers up or increase bandwith. I live in Darien and all is fine there but half my time I spend in Oak Park and thats when I need my phone to work the most. My friend recently dumped his iphone and went Android with Verizon. he gets fast internet anywhere in Oak Park consistently and no bad calls... I'm considering doing the same...

Since June my reception has been poor. In my house it goes from 3 bars to Seaching... . to No Service. Get the 3g E alot as well. Went to local AT&T store in Sept and they said there was maintenance going on on the towers. Sales Rep at store had 1 bar while I had 3. Problem has continued and recently missed 2 calls from a "lady friend" I am trying to date which resulted in a missed evening out. NOW I'M PISSED! Called AT&T today and they said they had "several degraded towers" within 10 mile radius. They have given me a credit for the past 6 months of voice and are adding a credit for data. Total credit should reach $360. It seems to me AT&T is accepting payment for services that they cannot provide adequately. This reminds me alot of AOL in its early days of internet service. Is there any class action activity going on against AT&T? I recommend calling AT&T and mentioning that you heard there are degraded towers in your area and you would like to receive a credit. Be calm and respectful. The customer service employees are not to blame. This is the fault of a poorly managed quality control system.

Terrible service. We had to buy a microcell for my home office, and even then it's not all roses. Forget leaving my home. It's a 50 / 50 chance a call will not drop and / or the person on the other end of the line will hear me.

Making outgoing calls is really bad; have to dial three or four times in order to make one call. When I finally make the connecton to call out, the other side can hardly hear what I say, or the call drops. Then, I have to try another three or four times just to make the call again. Almost never could finish a conversation with one simple dailing, but rather going through a lot of frustration just to make one phone call. Getting incoming calls is not as bad. My friends usually try once or twice, it gets to me. But still cannot hear each other clearly and drop call. At this location, I would try other phone models or other carriers.

AT&T in Oak Park, IL is horrible. Dropped calls, frequently 1 bar of service, and when a call does go through, often the other person cannot hear what you are saying.

I have never experienced five bars. I have really had terrible reception since I purchased the Treo 680. AT&T / Cingular service is very poor, I'm considering Verizon but I'm concerned that I'll experience the same.
