Dropped calls; poor reception; cutting in and out of calls

I've lived in the same place for 5 years and never had a problem until a few months ago. It took a while to figure out: I had the phone tested, it's been reset, SIM card replaced... Then I noticed the calls almost always fail when I am at home. It works great when I'm away from the immediate neighborhood. As soon as I start getting close to this intersection calls start failing.

ivy tech campus has 1-2 bars sometimes 3. but 3G goes from 3G to Just E.. and inside it goes to none! on AT&T very Disappointed

Usually 1 bar or less. Cant make calls, drops calls when in that area. For about 1 / 2 a mile up Hartstrait rd from Hwy. 48 there is no signal.

I've never had a dropped call and rarely if ever have below 5 bars. This goes for every store, mall, house, apartment, and building i've been on campus. At the heart of some of the biggest buildings at IU I sometimes only have 2 bars, but I never lose calls, and never have trouble hearing who i'm on the phone with. Amazing service!

Never had a problem in the car anywhere in Bloomington. Reception used to be near zero inside Classic Lanes. Now it is strong which means I can't hide there anymore. A phone with a strong antenna makes a big difference obviously.

I seriously hate Cingular on campus. On campus... hands down, worse service! I live in Chicago in the summer and it's fine, so I know it's just the towers in B-town. GRrr

There's practically no reception inside buildings, and even outside in the clear it's spotty. You can't understand what people are saying.

Just bought a house in Fieldstone. I have NO reception in the house and one-two bars if I walk out to the end of my very large deck. Called customer service and they told me "If you want to have 50,000 people move in with you, we'll put a tower right next to your house." Totally rude. Now I'm stuck with a contract and no reception. Beware of Cingular on the west side of Bloomington!

Five bars on the far east side of Bloomington. Three bars on North maple grove road on the North side of Bloomington. Can't really complain.

Generally pretty good in Bloomington, but weak near this area. Can usually catch 2 bars inside, 3 outside.

Decent enough when outside (3-4 bars), but ABYSMAL inside my ground-floor room--I get one bar (if I'm lucky) by the window, and if I cross the room to my bed, the call will drop and outbound calls will be rejected.

Spotty reception. I usually have to walk out to the driveway to have any hope of getting reception. Not fun in the winter!

Signal is okay in campus, but no signal at all in most classrooms. Quite a lot of drop calls.

It kind of confuses me to read positive ratings about Cingular on this site. My experience with AT&T and subsequently with Cingular has been nothing short of pathetic. Coverage would appear to be non-existent in Bloomington. There's always talk of new towers and better coverage, but in the 2 years I've been here there hasn't been a noticable improvement in service. To top it off, customer service is laborious and unhelpful. DO NOT invest in a Cingular phone if you live in Bloomington.

Reception fluctuates quickly. Can have perfect reception for a few seconds, mediocre reception for a few seconds, and then be disconnected -- all in under a minute. During daylight hours, usually can't talk for more than 15 minutes without disconnection. Nighttime is usually better.

I've had a new Nokia 6230 phone for about a month, and reception is GREAT all over town. I usually have at least 6 of 7 bars, whether I am inside or outside of buildings, near or far from campus. I was previously on AT / T CDMA, which was sometimes unreliable, but my new GPRS phone is great. I've yet to find a single place in town where I cannot get reception. My friend has T-Mobile and he can hardly ever get signal.

West side reception is poor and west of Monroe County Airport there is no reception.

Drops every other call. Dosen't help to go anywhere outside. Was sold last week that if I bought the V3 I would have the upgraded better signal. If you can't see the lights of the tower don't call 611 or they'll drop your call also.

Very Spotty, usually cant make a call or it drops immediately. Getting Cingular to set the ATT towers as primary on your phones SIM card will help, as the ATT towers have better signal strength.

Cingular reception is just as good if not better than Verizon, AT&T, and Sprint, on campus. My roomate has Verizon, and we seem to get the same coverage just about everywhere. I sometimes have a bar more than him. Plus, Cingular's reception is supposed to get better now that they bought out AT&T.

Awful reception. Once in a blue moon we get reception, but then it is so crackly that you end up getting disconnected anyway. We may switch to Verizon, which seems to get good reception.
