At&t coverage map reflects that location is in best coverage area. We are lucky to have 1 bar wheather we are indoors our outside. Very disappointed and have to ride this out with a 2 year contract!

Nextel, like all the others, has poor reception once you get north of the Dunes. Also, the pattern is to have reception degrade in the summer when the foliage is thick and humidity high, and get better in the winter. Often times, we will actually connect to a distant tower in Michigan (you can tell because the time changes) on clear days. I have anecdotal evidence that Verizon is the best, but they also drop calls. If any one of the carriers would put an antenna on the north side of the dunes I would move all 5 phones in my family over there in a heartbeat. We heard someone was putting a tower up in the harbor by the steel mills - would love to hear if anyone knows if that happens.

There is NO reception at Kemil beach from Sprint, Verizon, or Cingular (I've tried two Sprint phones, a Verizon phone made for reception, and a Cingular phone here). There aren't any cell towers in sight and very few along route 12. Sprint has good reception in front of Mittal (Route 12) and bars quickly decrease as you head north. There is no roaming from Sprint, so I can also say Alltel / US Cellular has no reception on the lakefront either.

I am lucky to have 1 bar in my house. I very rarely get 2 and I have to go outside to not have a dropped call which when it's nice out it's no big deal but when its cold and rainy it sucks! When I got to the Verizon store (literally less then 5 minutes away) I have perfect service..of course... stupid phone!
