Moved here from the Detroit area and had Verizon. We had zero issues and did not even have a house phone for a while. Hubby and I decided we wanted iphones. I spoke with several parents at my child's school that had them. All of them said the phone worked great in the area. Our contract was up on Verizon so we switched. What a huge mistake. Right away I had issues with reception. Sometimes no bars or just Edge. Hubby works by the SB airport and he can no longer call me from inside his work. Called AT&T about the issue before our 30 days trial. I was told the phones were the problem, got new sim cards, then was told new towers were going up and for us to hang in there. So of course after the 30 days I called again to complain and spoke with a CS agent and this guy was completely honest and said this general area is just poor in reception. I ended up getting a house phone the days just cells were over. I am stuck with AT&T for another year. I have already paid one termination fee to get rid of one phone. I feel duped! I then started asking the parents again and then they all admitted the service is terrible. Gee thanks. I guess misery loves company. I am going back to Verizon asap. Also not sure how this site works but it states AT&T is the second best service but the closest tower to me is in Elkhart. That is pretty far away. Verizon has a tower 1 / 2 mile from my home and several towers by the airport. No wonder hubby and I had no issues with Verizon. For my household Verizon is the best choice. Thank goodness they are getting the iphone.

My father and I have adequate reception with our iPhones. Visitors often have no reception, and my mother's Blackberry Storm on Verizon has zero reception.

Be careful all those who are planning to switch to AT&T! I have been trapped in a two year contract with AT&T and cannot wait to get out of it. When I initially powered the phone on, I got OK signals. Then the reception became terrible at my home and almost all calls were dropped before they end. Also, AT&T charges $175 early termination fee per line! If I do not turn off the phone for a few days, I may be able to make a call or two by turning off the phone and then turning it back on. It will make the phone re-register and get a few bars for a while. But it will not last and will not work again on the same day. So be aware.

Reception has always been a nightmare in this area. My Cingular service is unreliable until reaching US 12 going north, Ironwood going west, Fir going east, or Cleveland going south. I can get enough reception (one bar coming and going) to send / receive text messages, but that's about it. Often my phone will display 3 or 4 bars until a call is attempted at which point it drops to 0. I've seen Centennial have better luck in this area, not sure what tower they're on, and some customers of Verizon can get 4 bars even in my basement, others can't even get a signal outside. I look forward to the new tower being installed and am thankful that the "ban" was finally overturned. I tired of area residents complaining about reception but fighting a tower at every turn. I just hope the carriers jump on the tower quickly.
