The only lack of reception I've had with AT&T / Cingular is at the back of a Walmart store and while in the emergency room at the hospital (St Vincent's). Other than that, I've had AT&T for 8 years am extremely happy with it. I was tempted to go to Sprint, as I like their coverage / prices better, but since I don't have a land line any longer, and I know AT&T's good; I think I'll stay with what I have.

ATT family plan rarely drops calls and I don't have static either. I can be on for 20 to 60 min at a time without problems. Recently though I have a Verizon customer that can't get through at all. She misses 9 out of 10 times but can always get me at work (Raymond and Tibbs).

I work for AT&T and now live in Indy but I am from the 'Mo and go back frequently to visit family. If you have AT&T you're going to need a high end Nokia or Sony Ericsson phone to get decent reliable reception. I have had Cingular / AT&T in Kokomo since I was in Jr. High and am now 23. I live almost in Russiaville and used to barely get reception on my porch. Since switching to the GSM S.E. phones I now get the best reception possible through AT&T in Kokomo. As much as Centennial's phones suck, they're service is good in Mid / Northern IN. Usually whether you know it or not you're probablly roaming off they're towers in K-town anyway. Or just get Verizon. They're better for more rural areas. If you get Centennial just get 1 yr service and get a way cooler unlocked AT&T or T-Mobile phone to use.

I have had AT&T since they were Bell South in 7th grade and have even lived in Kokomo for most of the time I have had them. I live in Indy now (for the last 2 years) and I about NEVER drop calls with AT&T. I have worked for them for the last year. We could end this forum right now. It mostly comes down to what phone you use. I always get high end Nokia's or Sony Ericsson phones. Ericsson built Cingular's towers hence if you have a nice SE phone like a w810i, etc... you will get reception. Other phone brands tend to work better on other networks. Motorola often sucks on AT&T but is better with other carriers so ask your provider. Point blank if you live in more rural areas you're best bet is going to be Verizon. If you want more high tech phones or the GSM ability and to switch in and out of phones more easily go with AT&T. T-Mobile is a great carrier for larger cities like Chicago,Seattle, LA,etc. but for Indy stick with the 2 with the biggest networks. If you love POS phones with jack reception and even crappier customer service then get Sprint.

If you hang out the window - you may be able to make a call - take a step - it's over. Verizon customers are able to use their phones, however, unless you sit next to the windows - Cingular customers just have to sit and listen to everyone else talk on their cell phones. Cingular representatives claim they cannot put a tower in this area to help us.

Downtown Indy To Southside, Indianapolis, IN 46204 Wed Mar 14, 2007

I work in downtown Indy, and live in Greenwood. For the last month or two, I've noticed that as soon as I get past Conseco Fieldhouse on Pennsylvania, my signal just disappears. Often, there are phantom bars when this starts, and when I try to call, I get that high pitched busy signal that tells me I have nada. After that... . "no service". Signal does not return until well after Troy Ave. and Madison at best, and Southport Rd.at worst. As for south of there into Greenwood, very spotty and often just one bar. I have a Nokia phone that I bought about 4 years ago... and have not had any problems till about one or two months ago.

I put a 3, but it's really flaky... Cingular will show me 3 bars, but then I go to dial and they are Phantom bars... get a lot of dropped calls around 71st and Spring Mill as well. Signal good downtown and in Park100 for the most part.

Sometime summer of 2006, Cingular put in a new tower or made some sort of dramatic improvement. Previous reception was 0-1 bars. Now it's consistantly 5 bars 24 / 7. Thank you Cingular!

I am presently using my 3rd replacement phone under warantee, for the v180. A service rep did advise me that this model was a "dog" and I may be able to switch out of it to an LG model. However, my husband has a Nokia and has similar service problems to mine. Phone service is choppy, callers complain that my voice fades in and out and I cannot hear them well either. Many times I cannot place an outbound call, and have to 'retry' many times before it goes through. Calls are dropped often. Worse, often I will discover a message left on my phone and it has not even rung. Reception was better downtown. My husband had Sprint service previously, and it worked well - we may switch back soon, once the contract is up.

St. Rd. 135 / Southport Rd., Indianapolis, IN 46217 Tue Jun 27, 2006

My friend lives in huddleston estates between stop 11 and southport on 135. He and everyone else that comes to his house with Cingular has aweful reception in his house and around the area. My grandparents live near Perry Meridian High School and also use Cingular with little to no service. The best carrier in this area is Verizon because they have a tower right behind Perry Meridian Middle School. Cingular needs to build a tower in this area. I have Sprint and though I only have 1 or 2 bars, I rarely have a dropped call in this area.

I never used to have reception problems within my office building or outside until AT&T merged with Cingular. Since then, both me and my wife (who has a newer model Motorola) basically cannot use our phones anywhere in indianapolis due to the horrible reception. Cingular tech support suggested I needed to buy a new phone and maybe the speakers on my handset were to blame. These dont seem like reasonable solutions to me so I'm probably going to drop Cingular.

1 or 0 bars in a square bounded by Southport Rd.(south), Bluff Rd.(west), Banta Rd.(north), US135 / Meridian (east). V190 performs maybe 1 bar better than V180, but not enough to provide reliable communication. VERY ocassionally (a few hours a week) reception jumps to 4 bars, as if Cingular borrows someone else's tower. The V180 was with ATT before the merger to Cingular, the V190 was added after the merger. There is / was no difference between ATT and Cingular, implying that joining the ATT and Cingular networks did not provide additional towers in that area. I reside in Meridian Wood Park, so I see an on-going pattern.

We have 2 differenct phone models, the older of which worked very well until recently, apparently since GSM has become the norm, and yet Cingular refuses to acknowledge or fix the problem. Enormous static everywhere, increasing number of dead zones. Service becoming totally useless, along with customer service as it merges beginning with Cellular One, Bell South, and finally ATT. I am now looking for a reliable provider... or maybe I should look into short wave 2 way radio instead.
