I like Cricket because it works well in my hometown, but for traveling, they're not very good. Lots of dead areas unless you're near a major city. What good is that if you have an emergency? Also, I have a kid at BSU. Texting always works pretty well and calls are clear but they tend to drop unless you're practically outside or at least near a window. Also none of the Internet features work in Muncie. Horoscope, Facebook, Email. Despite their supposed "50 State" Service, we pay for features my kid can't even use while at school. I'm searching for a better carrier now and am doing extensive research to find out which carrier works best between home and Muncie which is what led me to this page.

I live in Morningside, I use Verizon 3G for my phone (Samsung) and data (MiFi 2200). The phone signal is poor for the most part, it is rare that it drops a call. My data connection is very slow, for the first few seconds (3 to 5) it operates at it's max rx rate of 405 kbps, then drops of to as low as 21 kbps then jumps between 21 to 120 kbps. I took the device to a Verizon outlet, he hooked it up to his ipad and said it was ok. I called tech support at 1-800-922-0204 they said there were no problems on their end and suggested I switch to 4G. My only options for a high-speed connection is Comcast Cable or 3G / 4G, DSL and AT&T Uverse are not available. I will not be switching to 4G and I will not be staying with Verizon.

During my past 7 months in Muncie, the only time I am without signal is when I am in an interior room of the basement of a large academic building. No problems here.

Can you hear me now? Not on a good day. Reception in the house is theoretical, at best. Dropped-calls (while dialing!) are par for the course. Outside, it's a little better, depending on where in the yard you are standing. This poor service by Verizon is the main reason we still have our land line.

We dropped Verizon. We have ATT now. It is pretty good, have noticed that Motorola phones seem to catch signal here the best. I took back an LG Shine because it couldn't get signal.

VZW recently updated the service here to EVDO. Even before that service was great all across town. Now with the EVDO upgrade I cannot complain at all. EVDO upgraded service just happened late last year so most of the negative VZW reviews were based off the 1x service.

I have only dropped one call on the Ball State campus so far and that was in the middle of a building, which I can accept. I usually get anywhere between 3-5 bars of signal strength, which is awesome.

I get good reception in most places around town that I have been at. A striking exception is the Ball State campus, especially the Art and Journalism Building. Another dead spot seems to be near Tillotson and Riverside Avenues.

I can't make calls to any person or voicemail. I cannot receive calls, either. If I do, by chance, initiate a call, it is dropped. I am very rarely even notified of voicemail messages.

Poor is being generous... on occasion I can get enough reception to answer a call just to have it dropped. Almost never have enough reception to make a call. Some parts of the neighborhood are better than others.

This is the only place where I have not been able to get good service from verizon. If you are lucky enough to get a bar or two, it drops the call. When we complain to Verizon, they could care less. We were forced to get a land line from SBC so we could get calls. Apparently the cost of a new tower out that way is more than the revenue they lose in people dropping their service.

Lots of dropped calls and / or no ring calls. Cell phones pretty much useless at home. Many dropped calls in other locations, often need 2-3 calls to cover even short conservations. Know bad areas South industrial park, parts of SR 3, Wheeling, Walnut North, 35 South.

We have 5 of these phones and they are horrible. The service is terrible in our addition. Nearly every call is dropped and every incoming call goes directly to voice mail. We even bought all new phones because these were supposed to get better reception! We have found an overall decrease in the service in the Muncie area. After 5 years of using Verizon, we are getting a new carrier when our contract runs out in January.
