I spend a lot of time in Seymour, Brownstown and Cortland and have always got great reception with my Nokia phones from Verizon. Had a Nokia 3589i before my current Nokia 6256i, and both get better reception than any of my family's phones. There's one spot East of Brownstown were Cingular customers seem to have better signal, but overall my Verizon service is great.

I've had AT&T for several years. Most of my use is local. Home, work, occasionally Bloomington, and trips along I-65. Service had been fine. Then about a month ago service went in the toilet. Now when I'm at home, I usually get ROAM. When I try to make a call, I get a beep and a recorded message, "You are not recognized as a Verizon customer,... .etc". Same thing has happened in the area were I spend most of my time at work. When I was in Bloomington recently, same thing there. Occasionally I can move around and get the AT&T to come back on the phone. I called AT&T. (Cingular answered of course). The 'dude' told me, (this is true), I would have to turn my phone off / on three times to force it to switch towers. I told him I could do that, even though that's quite a bit of time to spend waiting for the phone to boot up and power down. What I wanted to know was how I would know when there would be an incoming call and therefore need to quickly cycle my phone off / on three times before answering call? Silence... "Anything else I can help you with?". You haven't helped me with this yet. So, if I can pickup Verizon better than my own carrier, I quess I'll be going with Verizon. --------- - As an aside, sometimes rebooting the phone will get it to acquire AT&T service / tower again. What a pain. -

I live in the Seymour Indiana area. I have had Cingular for about 3 months now and have great reception with my new phone. However I added a second line to my calling plan and the other phone which was my first phone has good reception also. I here a lot of things about Cingluar and the bad reception that they have however I havn't had any trouble with my service. I have brothers and sisters that have both Cingular and Verzion and the ones that have Verzion says that Cingular isn't the place to get a cell phone because of the reception. However I know for a fact that rather you go with Cingular or Verzion, you are still going to get dead spots with both phones. So it really doesn't matter what phone you go with, what matters is what you want.

Pitiful, pitiful, pitiful. We live 1/2 mile from the Cingular store, and our coverage is spotty at best. We replaced our land line with cell phones. This is a very bad area to do that in. Sometimes we have no coverage at all, and sometimes it is as high as four bars out of five (but usually not). My in-laws have Verizon with much better luck...
